Jessie Mei Li Stars In Hulu’s New Series The Season On June 17, 2026

A Shadow and Bone alum is starring in Hulu’s new revenge series, releasing next month.

Netflix’s fantasy series, Shadow and Bone, was based on the books by Leigh Bardugo. It followed Alina Starkov, an orphan and mapmaker played by Jessie Mei Li, who learns she has magical abilities and could be the savior of a world torn apart by war. The show also starred Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, and Kit Young. Though Shadow and Bone ran for two seasons, in 2021 and 2023, before being canceled, one of its actors is now the lead in a different series.

Jessie Mei Li leads the cast of The Season, a new series coming to Hulu on June 17th. All six episodes will be available to stream at once. Viewers who subscribe to the Disney+ bundle will also be able to watch on Hulu through Disney+.

Yalun Tu, known for his work on shows like NCIS: Hawaii and My Lovely Yokai Girlfriend, is the creator and showrunner of The Season. This new drama is set in Hong Kong’s high-society boating world and follows a group of friends whose summer vacation takes a dark turn when secrets and betrayals come to light.

The cast of the series includes Jessie Mei Li (known from Shadow and Bone) as Cola, along with Toby Stephens (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) playing Christopher Hext, Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians) as Andrew Fung, Kōki as Allison, Justin Chien (The Brothers Sun) as David Ho, Celina Jade (Wolf Warrior 2) as Carrie, Yvonne Chapman (who appeared in Superman and Avatar: The Last Airbender) as Madeline, and popular Hong Kong musicians Anson Lo and Marf Yau.

Marialy Rivas directs and executive produces the project. Janice Lee and Agatha Lo are executive producers for PCCW Media, while Chloe Dan, Matt Aragachi, and Dylan Tarason executive produce for SK Global, the studio that made Crazy Rich Asians (2018). The Season is a production of PCCW Media and SK Global.
