Even though Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland haven’t revealed any secrets about the Avengers’ return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year, information is still getting out.
Joe Russo, one of the directors of Avengers: Doomsday, recently discussed with Metro UK how difficult it was to prevent spoilers for the upcoming Phase 6 movie. He explained that while audiences enjoy being surprised, the need to keep everything secret can sometimes go too far, making fans hesitant to interact with any related content.
Russo explained that they carefully plan their films to create specific emotional experiences for viewers. While they aim for those moments to land as intended, they also know they can’t control how everyone reacts. Ultimately, they focus on creating a film that remains enjoyable and meaningful even after the initial excitement fades. Fans who’ve been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the beginning are used to seeing plot details from older films revealed online or through interviews with the actors.
Although details about the new Avengers: Doomsday movie are still under wraps, it’s facing a unique problem compared to Infinity War and Endgame. The increasing amount of AI-created content is flooding the internet with fake leaks, leading to widespread misinformation about the film.
Online, inaccurate rumors – like claims of actors returning for Marvel movies before any official announcements – are spreading as if they’re genuine spoilers. As the Russo brothers have noted, it’s difficult to completely control information leaks before a film comes out.
Marvel Studios is known for being particularly careful about keeping secrets for Avengers movies. They’ve revealed very few details about Doomsday, and even Kevin Feige has confirmed that the cast announced in March 2025 isn’t everyone who will be in the Phase 6 film.
Even as the cast of Avengers: Doomsday films additional scenes, the Russo brothers have one last movie to direct to finish the Multiverse Saga. They’re scheduled to start filming Avengers: Secret Wars this summer.
Since Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to reboot the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it begins Phase 7, Marvel Studios will probably be extra careful to prevent spoilers for the 2027 film. It’s unclear if we’ll see more leaks in the future.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to open on December 18.
