When Margo returned from Las Vegas last week, she told her father she was eager to start a major art project. And now, here it is! She’s been developing the concept for her HungryGhost character, and the small alien figure featured in the introduction suddenly fits perfectly into the overall vision.
The episode starts with Margo presenting her first concept video, which feels like a classic, creative music video from MTV’s prime days. It quickly establishes a scene and then immediately breaks it down. As people arrive at a premiere for HungryGhost, a huge alien unexpectedly appears, walking gently and curiously towards the theater. She announces that she’s entered through people’s phones and wants to consume their memes, outdated media, and negative emotions – boredom, sadness, and anxiety. It’s a surprisingly appealing offer, even better than medication, and the speaker immediately wants to participate.
The way Margo presents her new online personality is both captivating and straightforward. As a newcomer to the world of OnlyFans, the idea of her character being inexperienced feels fitting for the content she’s creating, and it mirrors her own personal journey. While she’s a little naive about everything happening around her, she’s also eager to learn and experience life. This is just the beginning of the story for both HungryGhost and Margo herself.
Throughout the episode, it’s clear Margo relies on a small, passionate team to help her create her unique videos. These short, vertical clips, known as HungryGhost, demonstrate her talent for telling compelling stories in a concise way. Her team – KC, Rose, Jinx, and Susie – fully commit to bringing her vision to life, and all the videos share a similar innocent and whimsical quality. One memorable clip references the iconic E.T. scene with Reese’s Pieces, showing Margo reaching for a bag of cheddar Sun Chips. Another shows her experiencing music for the very first time, and this video is what unexpectedly makes her an internet sensation. However, fame isn’t as glamorous as it seems, and it may even put Margo and her family at risk.
Let’s talk about the people who support Margo before we discuss the unfortunate leak of her personal information – something that, realistically, was bound to happen. Jinx is struggling with his mental health, and I’m increasingly concerned about him. He seems to thrive when he’s focused on something positive, like helping Margo with her videos. However, he gets very upset when he realizes he can’t shield her from negativity and hardship.
When Jinx receives a restraining order, Margo finds out about his trip to see Mark for the first time and is shocked. Jinx immediately regrets his actions, realizing he only made things harder for Margo. He goes to talk to Lace about what happened, and she quickly picks up on his distress. Margo should probably notice her dad is upset too, but she’s preoccupied and doesn’t know him very well – a fact he acknowledges is his own fault. He openly admits to Lace that he went to Las Vegas hoping to win back Shyanne, and expresses his regret for how he’s treated both Margo and Shyanne. Lace is disappointed to hear this, as she had hoped his call meant they might rekindle their connection from the summer of ’99. It’s a fun, flirty dynamic! The episode ends with Margo facing legal trouble, which is secretly a good thing because it means we get to see more of Lace and her impressive skills – they’d be smart to ask for her help with the custody order.
Jinx is clearly overwhelmed with regret. When Margo’s online identity is exposed and she and Jinx confront Shyanne, Jinx expects Kenny to react negatively. However, Kenny unexpectedly compares Margo to Mary Magdalene – a comparison I didn’t find as upsetting as Margo did – and offers his full support. While Shyanne seems touched by this, Jinx becomes increasingly angry and filled with self-loathing, realizing the situation didn’t unfold as he anticipated.
Susie is a wonderful character, but the show isn’t giving her enough depth. While the story rightly centers on Margo, Susie has become a key part of Margo’s close circle, and she deserves more development. Thaddea Graham is fantastic in the role – she’s so engaging and likable! – but we only know a few things about Susie: she’s in college, enjoys wrestling and cosplay, and is happy to be included. Her sweet comment about having the best year of her life was actually a little sad, because it highlighted how little focus she gets. The show has created incredibly well-developed characters, so I’m confident they can give Susie a more fleshed-out story. Margo also needs to be a better friend; Susie is frequently babysitting for free and contributing to Margo’s videos, even though Margo says she’ll pay her for the video work. It’s simple: treat your friends well, Margo!
Margo finds herself in a difficult situation when she follows her friend Becca to a New Year’s Eve party. This is the same Becca that Margo famously confronted over FaceTime – she virtually “threw” her in the toilet after Becca suggested putting Margo’s dog, Bodhi, in foster care. While Margo was right to be upset, Becca’s return highlights a pattern: Margo isn’t a very supportive friend. She tends to dominate conversations and rarely asks about others. The situation escalates at the party when Margo is exposed, and Becca yells that Mark was targeting her due to her “daddy issues.” (Jinx’s deadpan response from the car – “Hi, Becca” – is a humorous moment.) Margo has a lot to work on, but Becca clearly isn’t a helpful friend to lean on right now. (It’s worth remembering how Margo treats Susie and how she should treat Susie.)
When Mark’s mother learns about Margo’s true identity, she’s furious. She confronts Mark at his office, harshly criticizes him, and then likely starts the process of trying to gain custody of Bodhi. Mark is already dealing with his own children and a potential divorce, so this custody battle seems less about him wanting more time with Bodhi and more about punishing Margo. While it seems unfair that someone could lose custody of their child over a relatively harmless OnlyFans account, Margo is facing a real risk of losing everything. Hopefully, their friend and family member, Lace, can defend them in court as effectively as she fights in the ring.

HungryGhost claiming she could eliminate her viewers’ worries and unhappiness made me think of a scene from The Good Place, where Kamilah Al-Jamil literally pulled Chidi’s fears away from him. It’s a really appealing idea – imagining someone having the ability to just take away your problems!
Margo mentioned feeling odd whenever she’s not with her son, Bodhi, and I completely understand. As a mom with young kids, I know it’s hard being away from them – it feels like a little part of you is missing. It’s particularly strange when you have a baby at home.
There’s a moment where Susie and Jinx are decorating the Christmas tree, and Jinx becomes intensely focused on carefully placing tinsel strand by strand. The camera lingers on his dreamy, smiling face as he stares at the colorful lights, leading viewers to wonder if he’s under the influence. Has Jinx relapsed, or is he simply practicing ‘California sobriety’ – using substances occasionally?
