Okay, so the biggest mystery from this episode is… why was Ciara dressed as the Lorax?! Seriously, she jumps out and squirts everyone with water guns as they arrive at the house for one last summer weekend, and she’s fully committed to the Lorax costume. I’m just trying to figure out the backstory. Was it something she packed for the trip to Camp Sunrise, that day camp for kids with cancer, and the counselors thought it would scare them? Did she not want the costume to go to waste after ordering it on Amazon? Is she a huge Dr. Seuss fan? And the biggest question of all… was she trying to tell us she speaks for the trees? I need answers!
Okay, let me tell you about this scene – it was pure, unadulterated fun! This housemate decided to ambush everyone with a Super Soaker, and then, brilliantly, turned it into this whole ridiculous eco-warrior game. First, she ropes in Mia and Lindsay, who clearly have some military training from way back – honestly, after ten years, you forget these things about people! Then the cute couple, Dara and KJ, join in, and KJ really gets into the spirit, though he’s initially annoyed at getting soaked. When the next group – Kyle, Jesse, Bailey, and Levi – arrive, things escalate quickly. Bailey, the true friend, tries to warn everyone, but then Amanda shows up with Kyle and Ben, and she immediately points out Amanda’s suede outfit – suede in summer?! Seriously? – and tells everyone not to ruin it. That’s when all bets are off! The whole house swarms Kyle and Ben, completely drenching them, and it’s just a riot of laughter, silliness, and genuine joy. It was a genuinely delightful, chaotic mess.
Tom Schwartz, after everything that happened with Sandoval, urged everyone to support their close-knit friend group – but they really dropped the ball. Looking back, this episode feels particularly bad, especially considering how well some things have aged. It’s the complete opposite of how Paul Rudd holds up – he’d look instantly aged and weathered watching this! It all begins on the drive to National Beach Day, with everyone discussing West and Ciara getting back together. West expresses he just wants to enjoy their time together until fall and see where things go. Of course, we know now that doesn’t end well.
Okay, so things got really awkward at National Beach Day. I was cringing watching Amanda talk to Mia about the Soft Bar launch party. She was clearly hurt she wasn’t included with West, Ciara, Ben, and Sabrina afterward, and honestly, she’s right to think it was too soon for West to be taking them all out like that – she wants them to reconcile properly. But then she said West needs to be completely ready, and admitted she’s skeptical of him… which is just weird considering she’s been photographed everywhere in his clothes! She went on this whole rant about how any man who’s with Ciara needs to worship the ground she walks on, and how she’d defend her fiercely. It felt so over the top! Seriously, she was digging herself into a hole, talking like she’s some kind of protective warrior. It was a lot.
At the beach, Kyle talked to Ciara about his troubled relationship with Amanda. Ciara suggested they try a month-long separation, an idea she’d previously shared with Amanda. However, everyone thought this was a mistake. Lindsay commented during the car ride that it felt like a last resort. Kyle felt the same way and wondered if Ciara had already discussed this with Amanda. Ciara confirmed she had, and Amanda was open to it, but doubted Kyle would agree. Kyle was frustrated that this conversation was happening within the group and that Amanda hadn’t brought it up in therapy, where they’re supposed to be completely honest with each other.
Lindsay hosted a catered dinner at her house, marking the anniversary of her split from Carl. Surprisingly, this year’s dinner went much smoother than last year’s. She suggested they play a game – anything but the trust-testing one that always causes problems – and it actually went well. Lindsay explained the dinner was about acknowledging what’s been lost and gained, and asked everyone to share something they’d lost and something they’d found. As a playful example, she joked that Carl lost her, but gained a lot of attention online.
Bailey shared that she’s moved on from a past relationship and is now embracing fun, flirting, and even kissing. The group playfully pushed her and Carl to kiss, and I was genuinely happy to see them enjoying themselves. Earlier, Carl complimented Bailey’s outfit, but then awkwardly admitted he also liked the sheer dress she wore to a previous event, making a rather inappropriate comment about it. Honestly, Carl acted like a nervous teenager trying to impress someone. (And that comment made me wonder if that was a ‘hard’ opening after all… but I’ll drop it.)
KJ shared that he lost his brother at a young age, which made it difficult for him to connect with other men. He found the experience of spending the summer with the guys incredibly helpful and a source of personal growth. It’s a surprisingly emotional situation, all stemming from male friendships! Could this simple connection – a group of friends having fun together – be a step towards addressing the problem of male loneliness and maybe even lessening the influence of figures like Joe Rogan? Meanwhile, the women – Mia, Ciara, and especially Dara – feel overlooked and are wondering why they weren’t included.
West has shared that he recently struggled with losing his voice, but he found a strong connection with Ciara, whom he deeply cherishes. However, I suspect this happiness won’t last. Ciara feels relieved to have let go of her negative feelings towards West and is happy their relationship is finished. Throughout their dinner and the entire show, they were constantly affectionate, kissing and flirting, which felt like a bittersweet prelude to something inevitably ending, much like the band playing on the Titanic.
Finally, it’s Kyle’s turn. Lindsay playfully suggests he traded his wedding ring for a DJ career, which immediately sets off a tense discussion for the rest of the night. Kyle, frustrated that everyone – including Lindsay earlier, when she praised Chef Frank’s practical career choice – dismisses his DJ ambitions, announces he’s about to work with a manager who can get him bigger and better gigs. This news isn’t well-received, especially by Lindsay, who asks if he’s discussed it with Amanda and what her thoughts are. Kyle replies that Amanda was aware he was pursuing this. Lindsay then pointedly says, “So this is something you’ve been talking about with her?”
Lindsay is defending Amanda, arguing that decisions in a strong relationship should be made together, and it’s obvious Amanda doesn’t agree with what’s happening. Amanda often stays silent, letting others speak for her, because she feels Kyle isn’t listening anymore. This situation is beneficial for Lindsay for a few reasons. She believes Amanda deserves better, but she also cares about Kyle and hopes they can work things out. Interestingly, Lindsay used to be critical of the women in the house – she clashed with her roommate Cristina in the first season, was very unkind to Amanda in the second season (even prompting an 18-page email), and immediately opposed Paige and Hannah when they arrived. Now, she’s strongly supporting Amanda. This shift also seems connected to Lindsay’s own relationship struggles, as she’s been arguing with Kyle about feeling unheard and wanting a more equal partnership. Ultimately, Lindsay’s ability to navigate these complex dynamics is what makes her so compelling to watch and a master of reality television.
Tensions are rising between everyone. Ciara worries that Ben pursuing another business opportunity will strain their relationship. Ben argues that hiring a manager would be beneficial, allowing him to earn more money with less work. Lindsay insists they need to be on the same page as a family. Kyle points out that many successful DJs have supportive spouses and families. The conversation then shifts to Kyle and Amanda’s future family plans – whether they want children, and if they’re ready. Eventually, Amanda steps in, frustrated that the discussion has become too personal and complex to resolve over a simple conversation.
Kyle is clearly becoming increasingly frustrated and feels constantly criticized. It’s obvious he’s also tired of others offering unwanted opinions about his relationship. This tension finally explodes when he shockingly tells Amanda, “Fuck you.” This reaction is completely unacceptable, especially considering she’s been largely silent throughout the conversation. He’s lashing out at the one person he assumes won’t retaliate, and she doesn’t. However, everyone else immediately jumps in to object. West, in particular, confronts Kyle about his disrespectful language and moves closer to Amanda, placing a supportive hand on her chair. It seems, perhaps, that this gesture is what finally made Amanda fall for West, despite her earlier negative comments about him.
This just fuels Kyle’s anger. He starts slamming his hands on the table, explaining he doesn’t consider this a partnership because it requires both people to contribute equally. That’s when things really fall apart. Carl, still energized from the kiss, tries to get Kyle to calm down, but Kyle turns on him, yelling. After that, everything becomes chaotic. Kyle storms out, thankfully the door is fixed, and Carl chases after him. The others jump up, attempting to intervene, with insults and accusations flying. A full-on fight breaks out – swinging, kicking, grabbing – and everyone struggles to control each other. It’s a messy, intense brawl, with the darkness of the night adding to the overwhelming feeling of being trapped in the chaos.
