David Ellison Committed to 30 Theatrical Releases No Matter What

Despite recent financial losses from its films and legal challenges with its streaming service, Paramount CEO David Ellison remains dedicated to releasing 30 movies in theaters each year after the company merges with Warner Bros. Discovery. He pointed out that this level of output is already happening, with both Paramount and Warner Bros. releasing 15 films this year. While early numbers for 2026 show lower theatrical revenue compared to the strong performance of 2025—which included hits like Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Regretting You—Paramount has a full slate planned, including a Billie Eilish concert documentary, another Jackass movie, and a Street Fighter film. The focus, it seems, is on betting big on actor Noah Centineo.

During the earnings call, Ellison stated he’s aiming to finalize the Warner Bros. Discovery deal in September, but several challenges remain. He believes committing to “30 theatrical releases” could sway public opinion – and even Congress – in favor of the merger. However, producing that many movies with limited original content is a big undertaking. Perhaps, as a simpler option, they’ll end up making another Jackass film.
