Star Wars Confirms Mandalorian and Grogu Return After Upcoming Movie Event

Two popular characters from Star Wars are making their big-screen debut in a new adventure! And for fans who can’t get enough, they’ll quickly follow it up with their very own comic book series.

Only two months after the movie comes out on May 22nd, a comic book related to the story, called The Mandalorian and Grogu: Danger in the Dark, will be available in stores.

This graphic novel is set between the events of the previous story and the next movie. The official description suggests Din Djarin will face a difficult new mission, and also struggle with whether or not he can fully trust Grogu, who is strong but can be disobedient.

Beneath the city of Nevarro, a dangerous threat is growing, and the Mandalorian and Grogu must work together to stop it! Along with their Anzellan allies, Din Djarin and Grogu explore the lava tunnels under the city to deal with a wrecked pirate ship. They’ll face scary creatures and dangerous challenges, but the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. Can Grogu learn to follow Mando’s lead? And can Mando find the right balance between teaching Grogu and letting him take charge? Get ready for a funny, exciting, and heartwarming adventure!

Delilah S. Dawson, a seasoned Star Wars author known for novels like Phasma and Star Wars Adventures comics, is writing the story. The artwork features layout artist Mario del Pennino (known for Marvel Action: Captain Marvel) and artist Arianna Florean, who will handle both penciling and inking. Juni Ba, Ramon Rosanas, and Brent Schoonover are creating variant covers.

Since 2015, Marvel has been the primary publisher of comics, but The Mandalorian and Grogu: Danger in the Dark is different. This graphic novel is one of several new titles resulting from a collaboration between Mad Cave Studios and Lucasfilm, and it will be released through Papercutz, Mad Cave’s line of books for younger readers.

This September, Mad Cave Studios will publish Star Wars: Smugglers and Scoundrels—The Race for Jabba’s Bounty, a fast-paced story featuring Han Solo and Chewbacca, written by Cavan Scott and illustrated by Christian Colbert. In October, fans can look forward to Star Wars: Tales from the Outer Rim—The Legend of Beggar’s Canyon, which explores Luke Skywalker’s childhood on Tatooine, crafted by Greg Pak and artist Schoonover.

What Is The Mandalorian and Grogu About?

It’s been seven years since Pedro Pascal first appeared in the Star Wars universe as the main character in the popular Disney+ series, The Mandalorian. While the show was a hit, it was his adorable companion, initially known to fans as ‘The Child’ but later revealed to be named Grogu, who truly captured audiences’ hearts and broadened the show’s appeal to viewers of all ages.

Three years after the events of The Mandalorian season 3, Din Djarin and Grogu return in The Mandalorian and Grogu. This time, the New Republic asks them to undertake a risky mission: rescuing Rotta the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt’s son. They hope this rescue will lead them to information about a person the New Republic is after.

Jon Favreau, who created the original series, returns to direct and co-write this installment. He’s joined by Dave Filoni, a veteran of the Star Wars universe, and Noah Kloor. Pedro Pascal is back as Din Djarin after a brief absence due to scheduling conflicts. The cast also welcomes Jeremy Allen White, voicing the character Rotta, and a celebrated sci-fi actor—nominated for an Academy Award—playing a New Republic colonel who was once a pilot for the Rebel Alliance.

The Mandalorian and Grogu: Danger in the Dark will be available in bookstores on July 22.
