Star Wars Fans Are Already Worried About Its New Kanan Jarrus Replacement

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is a compelling and personal look at the character Maul, alongside a small but interesting group of characters. With two episodes dropping on May 4th – Star Wars Day – the first season is ending quickly, and it’s hard to predict what will happen next. While Maul is central to the story, the show also focuses on other characters, and the final two episodes of this season should provide satisfying conclusions to their arcs.

Brander Lawson brings a unique viewpoint, shaped by his past as a bounty hunter and detective, and even more so as a father – his experiences with the Empire are very different from those of typical citizens. Similarly, Devon Izara’s story, while echoing the trauma of many characters before her, is compelling because of her complex connection to Maul and the intriguing possibility that she’s a character from older, non-official Star Wars stories.

Will Devon Become Darth Talon?

As a fan, I’ve seen a lot of theories floating around about Devon and Darth Talon, and honestly, it makes a lot of sense! They’re both Twi’leks with similar skin tones, and the story in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord feels like it could be Devon’s origin story. It wouldn’t be a huge shock if her pink skin started getting darker if she fell to the dark side, and their connection is getting stronger – Maul is really trying to make her his apprentice, and it feels like it’s building to something big!

She has a grudging respect for Maul, understanding she’d lose in a lightsaber fight against him. She’s also struggling to accept his past as a Sith Lord, an enemy of the Jedi. However, Maul is surprisingly crucial to the survival of both Devon and Master Eeko-Dio Daki, especially now that the Empire controls the planet Janix in the Mid Rim.

If Talon isn’t given a more compelling backstory, Devon transforming into her would feel like a step backward, not a progression. This is largely because, beyond being a villain in the non-official Star Wars: Legacy comic, Talon’s appeal mostly relies on her attractiveness.

Devon Izara Is Star Wars’ Best New Padawan Character

It would be fantastic if Disney viewed the story of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord as a chance to reimagine Darth Talon. They could introduce her as a completely new character within the official Star Wars timeline. Since Talon isn’t currently part of the official story, fans would likely be very excited about such a significant change to her backstory.

Devon is a compelling character with a backstory similar to other popular Star Wars figures like Ahsoka Tano – a Jedi Padawan who lived through the devastating Jedi Purge after the Clone Wars. This difficult past gives her a complex and intriguing perspective, setting her apart from typical Jedi. Regardless of whether she’s connected to the existing character Talon, her story in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord promises to be captivating.
