Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, recently explained some changes coming to Xbox. He acknowledged that the company is adjusting its plans after hearing concerns from gamers.
During Microsoft’s recent earnings call, Satya Nadella explained that the company is prioritizing a revamp of its consumer products and services, with Xbox playing a key role in this initiative.
We’re working to improve Windows, Xbox, Bing, and Edge to regain customer loyalty and increase how people use these products, according to Nadella. Right now, our main priorities are making these services more reliable and providing a better experience for our existing users.
These remarks follow recent significant shifts at Xbox, such as retiring the “This is Xbox” branding, prioritizing communication about the console itself, and revising their approach to Game Pass.
Xbox shifts strategy after player backlash
Nadella explained that Xbox is now focusing on its dedicated fans, shifting away from recent attempts to broaden its appeal through experimentation.
We’re also focusing on our dedicated Xbox fans and players and working to innovate gaming. The recent updates to Game Pass, for example, demonstrate how we’re listening to and responding to what our customers tell us.
Xbox has been making some changes lately. They’ve lowered prices for certain Game Pass plans, are rethinking how they handle exclusive games, and are now focusing more on games made directly by their studios and what makes the Xbox console unique.

The company has shifted its focus away from promoting Xbox as a system that works across many devices. Now, they’re emphasizing classic console gaming and features that directly benefit players.
Even with recent changes, Xbox continues to see more players. Satya Nadella announced they reached record numbers of monthly active users and hours spent game streaming this quarter.
As a big Xbox fan, it’s really interesting to hear that the changes happening with Xbox are actually part of a much bigger shift going on inside Microsoft. Apparently, they’re changing how teams work to make sure everything they release – not just games, but all their products – is higher quality and a better experience for us, the users. It’s cool to know they’re focusing on making things better across the board!
We’re also actively improving how we operate, building on everything we’ve discussed. Our main goal remains consistent: providing customers with valuable, high-quality, and innovative solutions.
