As a researcher with a keen interest in the intersection of technology and gaming, I find this partnership between Moxy and SKALE incredibly exciting. With Nolan Bushnell, the mind behind Atari, Pong, and Chuck E. Cheese, at the helm of Moxy, it’s no surprise that this gaming platform is making waves yet again. The prospect of gasless blockchain gaming is not just a technological leap, but a testament to Bushnell’s visionary approach to gaming.

The partnership will allow Moxy’s end-users to indulge in blockchain gaming without paying gas.

In a new collaboration, SKALE, a network that operates on Ethereum‘s layer 2, has teamed up with Moxy, a platform for Web3 gaming. This partnership aims to offer blockchain-based gaming experiences to users without the need for gas fees. Notably, Moxy was founded by Nolan Bushnell, who is also known as the creator of Atari, Pong, and Chuck E. Cheese.

Moxy to Save $3.5 Million Annually Thanks to ‘Gasless Gaming’

At first, Moxy utilized Ethereum for its on-blockchain requirements. However, they are now transitioning to SKALE, which is projected to save the gaming company approximately $3.5 million per year due to the removal of gas fees. Bushnell, speaking about the partnership through a statement from SKALE, expressed that by eradicating gas fees and leveraging SKALE’s rapid infrastructure, they are establishing a new benchmark for what gamers and developers can anticipate. This collaboration bridges the gap between conventional gaming and blockchain gaming, delivering a smooth and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

With SKALE transferring transactions to Ethereum resulting in gas fees, developers operating their dApps on this layer-2 platform pay subscription fees instead, which is a more cost-effective approach. Given the existing low transaction costs on layer-2 networks like SKALE, it becomes an ideal choice for gaming applications. Moxy intends to shift its native asset, WMOXY, from Ethereum to SKALE to take advantage of the reduced costs. The savings will be channeled back into their ecosystem, aiming to strengthen the competitive gaming environment and increase rewards for players.

Jack O’Holleran, co-founder of SKALE, expressed his excitement about the collaboration on project X. “I’m thrilled that the founder of Atari (also the founder of Chuck E. Cheese and Pong) and his fantastic team at @Moxyio are developing on SKALE.” The network’s Chief Marketing and Growth Officer, Andrew Saunders, also commented on the partnership. “Nolan’s impact on the gaming world is significant and long-lasting. Partnering with Moxy under his guidance allows us to showcase the true capabilities of SKALE’s technology.

Making this move might rekindle investor enthusiasm for the blockchain gaming sector, as a recent DappRadar report showed that venture capital investments in this field dropped to levels not seen since Q3 2020.
