So, I’m super hyped for Christopher Nolan‘s new film, The Odyssey, but thankfully, it sounds like it won’t be quite as long as Oppenheimer. My butt definitely needed a break after that one!
Christopher Nolan, the director known for the Dark Knight films, often makes movies that are quite long. Several of his recent works, like Oppenheimer, Tenet, and Interstellar, are nearly three hours long. Even his earlier films, including Inception, The Prestige, and Dunkirk, generally run between 1 hour 40 minutes and two hours.
The celebrated director is now tackling their most challenging project yet: a film based on Homer’s classic epic poem (and no, not the one from The Simpsons!). The story follows Odysseus’ dangerous trip back home after the Trojan War.
Matt Damon leads the cast of The Odyssey, a film boasting a stellar lineup including Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Himesh Patel, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Benny Safdie. Despite its impressive cast, The Odyssey is expected to be relatively short.
Christopher Nolan says The Odyssey is an epic but he tried to “make the best film possible”
Christopher Nolan recently explained that his film Oppenheimer is surprisingly concise compared to The Odyssey. He told the Associated Press he focused on making Oppenheimer as good as it could be, and that resulted in a shorter, though still epic, movie given the scope of the story.
The director explained that adapting The Odyssey created significant pressure to make a truly grand film. He felt a huge responsibility, knowing that people everywhere have high expectations for an epic adaptation of the story, and he wanted to deliver on those hopes.
As a big Nolan fan, it’s really interesting to hear how he approached his latest film! He mentioned he definitely drew on what he learned making the Dark Knight movies, because he knows when you’re adapting a story people already know, there’s a certain level of expectation you have to meet.
He said he realized people want movies based on familiar stories and characters to be made with genuine passion and care. They want to see that the director truly put their heart and soul into creating something great, and that’s what he aimed for with this film.
I’m super hyped for ‘The Odyssey’ to hit cinemas, but while we’re waiting, I’ve been checking out all the other big movies coming out in 2026. Seriously, there’s a ton of stuff to look forward to – I found a full release calendar and I’m already marking dates!
