The final episode of Lioness Season 2 was shown on December 8, 2024. Now, almost ten months later, as the end of the 2025 TV season approaches, the Taylor Sheridan series has been officially renewed for Season 3. This lengthy gap between the finale and renewal is quite uncommon, and reports suggest that the delay was partially due to Nicole Kidman, along with the announcement of a shorter Season 3.
Nicole Kidman, who stars in the show with Zoe Saldaña, was apparently in talks to renew her contract for Season 3, according to Deadline, and that’s one of the reasons for the delay. It seems Zoe Saldaña had an agreement covering all three seasons, but Nicole Kidman’s contract didn’t, so it took some time to reach a new agreement. Apparently, while the Guardians of the Galaxy star had a three-season deal, the Big Little Lies star didn’t, and negotiating her new contract took time.
In addition to everything else, Lioness boasts a star-studded cast – similar to other Taylor Sheridan productions – and coordinating everyone’s availability has been a challenge. It seems Season 3 (you can find the official announcement below) was approved earlier in the year. The public announcement was delayed, though, while schedules were finalized, particularly for Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña.

I’m not really surprised by this, considering how much Nicole Kidman works. In 2024, the year Season 2 of Lioness was released, she also starred in the miniseries Expats and The Perfect Couple, and the films A Family Affair, Babygirl and Spellbound. Plus, in 2025, she appeared in the movie Holland and Season 2 of the series Nine Perfect Strangers.
Looking ahead to Season 3, we can also expect the arrival of Practical Magic 2, which has just finished filming. Plus, Nicole Kidman is currently finishing up work on two more TV series, Scarpetta and Margo’s Got Money Troubles, and is starting to develop Discretion and Girls and Their Horses. With all of those projects, it’s easy to see why finding time for Lioness is proving difficult, I imagine.
It gets even more complicated when you consider the rest of the Lioness cast, which features well-known actors like Zoe Saldaña, Michael Kelly, Morgan Freeman, Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, and others.
With everything said and done, I’m happy it all came together, and we can now confirm that Season 3 of Lioness is officially happening.
It is worth noting that it also took this long to renew Lioness for Season 2.

Right now, Tulsa King is available for those who have a Paramount+ subscription, and Season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown will premiere there on October 26th. Following that, on November 16th, Season 2 of Landman will begin, and in the months after, we’ll see several new Yellowstone spin-offs, including shows focusing on Rip and Beth, and a series about Kayce on CBS.
