It’s Officially the End of an Era for CBS Ghosts

CBS is making a change to its comedy lineup, moving the popular show Ghosts to midseason. The show, which began in 2021 and is based on a British series, stars Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar as Sam and Jay Arondekar, and is being shifted to accommodate a new sitcom.

Sam and Jay move into Woodstone Mansion after Sam inherits it from a relative. But they’re not alone – Sam can see ghosts after an accident, and the mansion is full of them! The show has received great reviews, but unfortunately, CBS has decided to cancel it and replace it with a new series called Eternally Yours this fall.

It’s The End Of Ghosts’ Reign In CBS’s’ Fall Lineup

CBS is making a change to its fall schedule, moving the popular show Ghosts to make room for a new comedy called Eternally Yours. Created by the same team behind Ghosts, Eternally Yours centers around a pair of vampires who have lived for 500 years. It will premiere in fall 2026, replacing Ghosts in the lineup.

Since it first aired in 2021, Ghosts has been a regular part of CBS’s fall TV schedule, with the exception of one year when programming was delayed. Each season of the show usually has between 18 and 22 episodes—though the upcoming sixth season will air later in the year, it will still have a full 22 episodes.

Despite CBS ordering a full season, moving Ghosts to midseason could mean the show’s most popular period is over. CBS is also reducing its number of comedies, with only Eternally Yours, Ghosts, and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage remaining on the schedule for next year.

For the past two years, the show Ghosts has aired on Thursdays at 8:30 pm Eastern, before a legal drama starring Kathy Bates. Now, however, that show and Ghosts have swapped timeslots, with Eternally Yours taking Ghosts‘ place. These changes might be due to budget reductions following the merger of CBS’s parent company with Skydance Media, which is expected to happen in 2025.

Even though Ghosts switched air times mid-season, fans will still get new episodes this fall with special one-hour Christmas and Halloween broadcasts. CBS continuing this tradition shows they have faith in the show. However, viewers will have to wait eight months between the end of season five and the start of regular episodes in season six, meaning the main storyline will be paused for a while.

What To Expect From Ghosts’ Replacement Series

The new CBS comedy Eternally Yours, starring Ed Weeks and Alerga Edwards, will debut this fall. The show, about a vampire couple, shares creators and a supernatural focus with the hit series Ghosts. While set in modern times, Eternally Yours will be filmed in Montreal, just like Ghosts, which could impact when Ghosts airs its next season.

The new family comedy stars Weeks and Edwards as Charles and Liz, a vampire couple whose 500-year relationship has lost its spark. Similar to the show Ghosts, it adds a supernatural element to the traditional family sitcom. Like Ghosts as well, Eternally Yours features characters who are no longer living.

Eternally Yours blends fantasy and reality. The story follows a quirky group of immortals living in modern-day Seattle who have fallen into a comfortable, unchanging routine. That is, until their daughter’s very genuine boyfriend shows up and makes them question if their everlasting love is truly a blessing – or a curse.

Despite its current success, the show is facing increased competition as CBS plans to air Ghosts later in the season. This shift could potentially signal trouble for Ghosts, as the show has already explored many of its main storylines and is entering its sixth season.
