I Always Wondered Why Scarlet Witch’s Costume From The End Of Avengers: Age Of Ultron Was Only Seen Once, And Elizabeth Olsen Gave A Brutally Honest Answer

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now incredibly efficient, consistently delivering new movies and shows both in cinemas and on Disney+. Viewers who have followed the Marvel films closely over the years still have some unanswered questions, like about the striking costume Elizabeth Olsen wore at the conclusion of Age of Ultron. Now, she’s revealed the difficult reason why we didn’t see that outfit again in any subsequent films.

Wanda Maximoff is a beloved character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Avengers: Age of Ultron marked her initial introduction to the shared world. Initially presented as a villain, she eventually switched allegiances and joined Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Although her ultimate costume looked fantastic, the process of getting there wasn’t ideal. During a recent interview at LA Comic Con (as reported by YouTube), the WandaVision actress revealed the real story behind her first superhero suit. Here’s what she had to say:

I couldn’t even sit in it. It was completely unusable. It was only good for a single day of standing, and after that, it was worthless.

Whoops! Although superhero outfits can be a bit awkward to wear, the fact that Olsen had almost no mobility while filming Age of Ultron is likely why we didn’t see that costume again. She wore a similar, but much more practical, outfit in Captain America: Civil War, and also in Infinity War and Endgame.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m always checking out what’s on Disney+. It’s where you can find everything Marvel Cinematic Universe, including all of Elizabeth Olsen’s amazing work as Wanda Maximoff. Right now, plans start at from $9.99 a month w/ ad-supported plan (that price will be $11.99 starting October 21, 2025).
If you want to ditch the ads, it’s $15.99 a month (increasing to $18.99 on October 21, 2025), or you can save about 16% and pay $159.99 upfront for a whole year. View Deal

Although Elizabeth Olsen has expressed her discomfort with the revealing neckline of her original Wanda costume, she appreciated that it at least allowed her to move freely and sit comfortably throughout her appearances in three Marvel films. Later during the same convention, the His Three Daughters actress discussed her experience wearing that initial suit in Age of Ultron. She explained:

It was such a wild costume, and we only wore it that one time because it made everyday things impossible – going to the bathroom, sitting down, even walking. It wasn’t practical at all, and definitely wouldn’t help if you needed to defend yourself. I mostly just remember being really puzzled about how it even worked.

I mean, is it any wonder? Playing a superhero typically involves a lot of physical activity, and it seems Olsen wouldn’t even be able to move properly in that costume… much less battle villains using Wanda’s chaos magic. Thankfully, she didn’t have to wear that initial outfit again after that quick scene in Age of Ultron.

With Wanda’s huge fanbase, many are asking if and when Elisabeth Olsen will return in future Marvel films. Although she wasn’t included in the cast list for Avengers: Doomsday, fans are still hopeful for a surprise appearance. Olsen herself has stated that she doesn’t have a role in the movie.

The truth will be revealed when Avengers: Doomsday is released in theaters on December 18th of next year, as part of the 2026 film lineup. For fans who can’t wait, Wanda recently made an appearance in the animated series Marvel Zombies.
