Woman goes viral after winning “rain leave” bonus from job because of bad weather

A woman in China received permission from her employer to take time off work due to heavy rain, and the story has become popular online.

Everyone has those days when getting out of bed for work feels like a struggle. Bad weather can make it even worse, turning your commute into a difficult and exhausting experience.

It’s unusual to have a day off due to weather, and it only happens when conditions are severely dangerous and pose a threat to safety.

Interestingly, a woman in China recently won a work perk called a “rain leave” prize, which lets her take up to a week off when the weather is really unpleasant. It’s true!

Woman wins paid time off because of bad weather

A woman from Changsha, in southern China’s Hunan province, is getting a lot of attention online after a recent victory, according to the South China Morning Post.

According to the South China Morning Post, the company Mala Wangzi (meaning “Spicy Prince”) held a lottery for its employees. One of the prizes was time off – dubbed “rain leave” – after it had rained for 82 days in a 90-day period.

The grand prize winner received a fully paid week off work to stay home and relax. Other employees won practical prizes like umbrellas, waterproof shoes, clothes dryers, and passes allowing them to arrive late to work during bad weather.

The report states the woman can use her time off however she prefers – she can take a full week, or spread it out as needed. The only condition is that it needs to rain before she takes the time off.

It’s definitely a welcome perk, and something many of us would enjoy having.
