Subsequently, the Author-Improve Agent refines this draft, expanding on sections, incorporating findings from external sources, and addressing identified weaknesses. A Test Suite then evaluates the current draft against pre-defined quality metrics – including factual accuracy, grammatical correctness, and stylistic consistency – providing feedback to the Author-Improve Agent for further refinement. This iterative cycle continues until the paper reaches a predetermined level of completeness, as assessed by the Test Suite.
Following 36 iterations of the Ralph-Wiggum-Loop, the automated research paper generation process achieved a state of near-completion. While the loop successfully produced a largely coherent document, manual intervention remained necessary to address remaining deficiencies. This final polishing involved tasks such as refining arguments, ensuring stylistic consistency, and verifying factual accuracy – areas where the automated agents, at this stage of development, did not consistently meet the required standards for publication-ready material. The need for manual review indicates that, despite substantial progress, full automation of research paper creation was not yet achievable with the implemented system.
