Sydney Sweeney is starring in the new live-action Gundam movie, and production has officially begun. Netflix and Legendary Pictures have gathered a complete cast for what promises to be the most ambitious project in the franchise’s history.
Live-action Gundam movie starts production
Filming has started in Queensland, Australia, on a live-action movie based on the popular Gundam series. The movie is a collaboration between Netflix and Legendary Pictures, and is directed and written by Jim Mickle, known for his work on Sweet Tooth. Starring in the first-ever live-action Gundam film are Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo.
This film centers around two mech pilots battling each other in a long-standing war between Earth and its former space colonies. As their loyalties change and a new danger emerges, they find themselves on a collision course, embarking on a desperate journey across the galaxy that could determine the future of humankind.
Bandai Namco Filmworks helped create and popularize the exciting sci-fi genre of “mecha” with its famous and ongoing Gundam series, which includes movies, TV shows, and more.
Jason Isaacs and more added to Gundam movie cast
Netflix and Legendary have expanded the cast of their upcoming project with six new actors: Jackson White, Nonso Anozie, Javon “Wanna” Walton, Oleksandr Rudynskyi, Ida Brooke, and Jason Isaacs. Details about the characters they will play haven’t been revealed yet, according to Deadline.
As a film buff, I’m really excited about this cast! I know Grace Van Patten from Tell Me Lies, and Nonso Anozie was fantastic in Sweet Tooth. Plus, I recently watched Lily Rabe in Under the Bridge, and Volodymyr Rudynskyi is currently in The Agency. Looking ahead, I can’t wait to see Florence Pugh in Dune: Part Three, and Julian Isaacs was brilliant in The White Lotus. Rounding out this incredible group, we’ve also got Shioli Kutsuna, Michael Mando, and Gemma Chua-Tran joining the project – it’s shaping up to be a must-see!
Legendary Pictures is making the movie with Bandai Namco Filmworks. Mickle and Linda Moran are producing through their company, Nightshade, with help from Cale Boyter, Ali Mendes, Sweeney, Centineo, and Enzo Marc. Matthew Jenkins, Makoto Asanuma, and Naohiro Ogata are executive producers on the project.
Notably, Netflix moved to acquire the film in January.
