DC Studios and the team behind the upcoming Clayface movie are slowly building excitement by releasing small hints. They recently offered a first glimpse of Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, intentionally focusing on the character himself before revealing his monstrous transformation – a choice that speaks volumes without showing much.
DC reveals first look at Clayface movie
DC Studios has given fans a first glimpse of its new Clayface movie, sharing a photo of actor Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen featured on a fictional magazine cover within the movie’s world.
The promotional picture shows what Hagen was like before he became the movie’s villain. A short preview of the film might be released online as soon as Wednesday, April 22nd.
The trailer debuted at CinemaCon last week, giving audiences a first look at the film’s disturbing and unsettling tone. It apparently showed the character Hagen in a hospital, his face covered in bandages, before he gains the ability to shapeshift through exposure to strange chemicals. The trailer ended with a shocking scene of Hagen in a bathtub, seemingly removing his own face.
Mike Flanagan wrote the screenplay for the film, and James Watkins, the director of Speak No Evil, will direct. James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Matt Reeves (director of The Batman) are all producing. Hossein Amini, who previously worked on the 2011 film Drive, has recently joined the team to refine the script.
The movie will follow a rising actor who is horribly disfigured by a gangster. Desperate for a solution, he seeks out an unconventional scientist for an experimental procedure that has terrifying consequences. Producer Peter Safran has compared the film to the body horror of classics like David Cronenberg’s The Fly and Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance, promising a truly frightening experience.
Max Minghella plays John, a detective in Gotham City who doesn’t trust his fiancée’s connection with Hagen. Naomi Ackie is Caitlin Bates, the CEO of a biotech company who helps Hagen recover after he’s injured by a gangster.
Warner Bros. has moved the movie’s release date to October 23, 2026, aiming for a launch during the popular Halloween season. Lynn Harris and Chantal Nong are executive producers for the film.
