How to Complete Old Man Quest in REPLACED

In REPLACED, the main story follows Warren Marsh’s return to Phoenix-City, but you’ll also spend time at Western Station, a safe place led by the Matriarch and Ironwood. Here, you can help people in small ways, which makes the story richer and can also earn you useful rewards.

There’s a heartwarming quest near the station where you help an elderly man fulfill a final wish. If you’re having trouble getting started, here’s a guide to completing the “Family Reunion” quest in REPLACED.

Family Reunion Quest Location in REPLACED

Okay, so I just started Chapter 4 and picked up a quest called “Family Reunion.” You get it from Old Man – pretty easy to find him. Basically, you need to head over to the Hospital area, which is west of the main station. Once you’re there, just run to the right until you see where the Doctor hangs out. You might remember his quest from Chapter 2, so it’s in that general area.

Go to the elderly man in the hospital bed on the left and talk to him. He’s very ill and wants to see his family before it’s too late. He needs your help to find them and bring them to his bedside.

Like most side quests, this one needs to be done during a specific chapter of the game. Make sure you complete it when you reach that part, or you might not be able to do it at all!

How to Complete the Family Reunion Quest in REPLACED

After talking to the Old Man and accepting his quest to locate his family, exit the Hospital and go to the tents under the overpass. Find the green tent decorated with white flowers – it’s the last one on the right, near the station. You won’t find his family there, but you will discover several items you can take back to him instead.

You can explore the tent by looking at things inside, like the bed, a bag, a suitcase, and books. Examining these items will give you clues on how to open a lockbox hidden inside.

Each clue contains a date, shown in yellow, that’s important for the lockbox code. Here are those dates, taken directly from the clues:

  • 02/10/1953
  • 05/18/1955
  • 06/06/1944

Okay, so here’s how I figured out the code! There was a note inside the tent that gave me a clue: “Winter, second half, leap year.” It took me a minute, but I realized it was telling me the order for the numbers. “Winter” meant the month ’02’ (February!), “second half” pointed to the 18th of the month, and “leap year” was ‘1944’. So the code was those numbers put together!

With that, the code for the lockbox is: 02-18-1944

Once you’ve opened the lockbox, you’ll find the Family Photo inside. Take it to the Old Man at the hospital. After a heartfelt conversation, you’ll finish the quest and get the Genetic Profile 5 upgrade, which increases your maximum health by half a heart.

You’ll also unlock the Family Reunion achievement for your efforts.
