It’s hard to pick a favorite Disney movie, but Tangled is consistently ranked among the best. Though the film itself is well-loved, many people are rediscovering its sequel series, which is currently gaining popularity on streaming services – and is even trending ahead of the upcoming live-action Tangled remake.
According to FlixPatrol, Tangled: The Series – Short Cuts is now the 7th most popular show on Disney+ in the U.S. These shorts originally aired with the series and take place during the first season.
Tangled: The Series Is an Underrated Sequel
Although it felt like a fresh start with its first season, Tangled had actually been continued before. Following the movie’s popularity, a short sequel called Tangled Ever After came out in 2012. Then, the TV series began with Tangled: Before Ever After, a 55-minute movie that took place between the original Tangled film and the short film.
Clocking in at just six minutes, Tangled Ever After was the sole sequel to Tangled for several years. It first appeared in cinemas before the 3D re-release of Beauty and the Beast, and was later added as a bonus feature on the Cinderella: Diamond Edition DVD. The short film shows what happens on Rapunzel and Eugene’s wedding day.
The short film debuted on Disney Channel in 2017, five years after the original Tangled, and its story happens before Tangled Ever After. It’s set six months after the first Tangled movie, and follows Rapunzel as she prepares to officially become a princess and learns to handle her new duties.
Following Rapunzel’s journey over three seasons and 60 episodes, Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure shows her learning to be a princess. The series focuses on her relationships with her parents and people of her kingdom, as well as the challenges that come with her new role. It also expands the world around her, introducing magic, new friends, and some exciting villains.
These shorts are a delightful extension of the ‘Tangled’ story, offering a fun way to reconnect with beloved characters, delve deeper into the magical world, and watch Rapunzel grow. They’re also a great way to get excited for the upcoming live-action movie!
The Tangled Live-Action Remake Already Has the Perfect Cast
Disney has announced that Teagan Croft, famous for her role as Raven in the series Titans, will play Rapunzel in the upcoming live-action movie. Joining her is Milo Manheim, known from the Zombies Disney films, who will play Eugene Fitzherbert, also known as Flynn Rider.
Kathryn Hahn, a familiar face from movies like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Bad Moms, as well as the Disney+ series WandaVision and its spin-off Agatha All Along, is set to star in a new film. Production is scheduled to begin this June, meaning it could be some time before the movie is released in theaters.
Fans of Tangled still have plenty to enjoy within the story’s world. The original film successfully blended comedy, emotional scenes, romance, and strong character growth, all set to memorable music. That’s why it and its follow-ups continue to be popular, and excitement is building for the upcoming live-action adaptation.
