He stands out from other students like the emotional Tetia and the reserved Richeh, seeming much more closed-off. His role as Coco’s roommate in Witch Hat Atelier has also made Coco’s experience particularly difficult.
Agott makes a striking first impression, appearing to float and demonstrating a level of magical skill previously only shown by Qifrey. This establishes her as a highly trained and powerful witch among her peers. However, unlike Richeh and Tetia, Agott initially dismisses Coco, seeing her as unimportant and unwilling to acknowledge her potential.

Agott revealed she had passed the same test at age ten, unfairly pressuring Coco to succeed and take it without Qifrey knowing.
Agott quickly prepared Coco for her trial, giving her simple instructions, a magical guidance orb, and practically pushing her out the window to begin. This immediately put Coco in a risky situation. To pass the first test, called “Consent of the Crown,” she had to journey into the dangerous Daddah Range with just three tools and some magical supplies. Her goal was to find and collect a rare Diadem Herb, which only grew in that specific location.
Throughout the episode, we discover how difficult Coco’s challenge is through a discussion between Qifrey and the witch Alaira. When Coco ventured into the Daddah Range, the Diadem Herb was at its peak power, causing the plants to float at a dangerous height – far too high for a new witch like her. If she failed the test, Coco wouldn’t be able to continue her journey as a witch, and the circumstances made it incredibly difficult, pushing her to use magic she wasn’t yet ready for.
Rather than give up, Coco cleverly repurposed a fabric-cutting stone into a paintbrush, using her skill to create a levitation spell. Despite not fully controlling flight, she managed to grab a Diadem Herb while briefly flying upside down, successfully completing the first test. Unbeknownst to everyone, a mysterious figure had been observing Coco’s performance at the Daddah Range throughout the entire event.
Anime Fans Will Get Character Growth for Agott in Witch Hat Atelier
Currently, Agott isn’t shown in the best light in Witch Hat Atelier, but fans who have followed the story know she’s a developing character, and things are about to change. While she seemed upset by Coco’s safe return and the gift of the Diadem Herb, her reaction isn’t just simple jealousy. Agott is the most talented and powerful apprentice, so she reacts strongly when she feels her position is challenged, which can make her seem cruel to the audience.
For viewers who haven’t read the manga, the story beautifully focuses on how each apprentice develops, emphasizing their strengths even within their weaknesses. Richeh is initially quiet, and Tetia is outgoing, but they both find ways to work with Coco while accepting their differences.
