Looking for a great movie weekend? Disney+ has you covered! Based on recent entertainment news, here are three timely and exciting picks. Last weekend, I highlighted The Amateur, The Devil Wears Prada, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps – these were also the first recommendations for the streamer from ScreenRant.
As a movie buff, I was really pleased with the variety of options available – there was truly something for everyone, from a fast-paced action thriller to a heartwarming dramedy, and even a huge superhero sci-fi epic. I actually decided to check out that epic this weekend while browsing Disney+, and it turns out there were two releases of it! It makes sense though, because both versions felt incredibly relevant and timely for subscribers like me.
This week, a Marvel movie became available on Disney+, and another one ties into a big reveal. Both films are considered among the best in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making this a great weekend to watch or rewatch these exciting stories on Disney+.
Our other Disney+ movie suggestion is also part of a well-known series, but it’s a lighthearted comedy – no superheroes here! It’s a classic film with a fantastic cast, perfect for a fun family movie night this weekend. Here are our recommendations:
3. Night at the Museum (2006)
It’s a good idea to begin with the one movie on the list that isn’t part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Night at the Museum really showcases Ben Stiller’s comedic talent – he’s consistently proven himself as a top comedic actor. In the 2006 film, Stiller plays Larry Daley, a new night watchman at New York City’s Museum of Natural History, who has to manage all the exhibits coming to life after dark.
The trailer for Ben Stiller’s latest comedy, Focker In-Law, came out this week. Robert De Niro is back as Jack Byrnes, and Ariana Grande joins the cast as Olivia Jones. Watching one of Stiller’s most famous films, Night at the Museum, feels like a great way to get excited for the new movie, as it’s full of funny scenes.
2. Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Topping the list is the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie ever made – and the second-highest-grossing film of all time. Avengers: Endgame earned a massive $2.8 billion and dramatically altered the MCU by killing off several important characters. With a huge cast and many unexpected moments, it remains the most ambitious superhero movie created so far.
With a 94% approval rating from critics and a 90% audience score, Avengers: Endgame remains a highly praised film. Recently, at CinemaCon, Marvel unveiled the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. This has sparked renewed interest in Endgame, making it a great time for both longtime fans and newcomers to revisit the movie before Doomsday hits theaters in December.
1. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Last but not least, Spider-Man: No Way Home is the biggest Spider-Man movie ever made. After the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced the idea of the multiverse, fans desperately wanted to see all three actors—Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield—who’d played Spider-Man on the big screen together. In 2021, Marvel and Sony delivered, making that dream a reality.
This movie is a heartfelt tribute to all the previous live-action Spider-Man films, and it cleverly brings back iconic villains like Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin. However, it always keeps the focus on Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and his personal journey. No Way Home is a truly moving, exciting, and unforgettable cinematic experience. If you have a Disney+ subscription, these three movies are sure to provide a great weekend of entertainment.
