In a statement posted on Weibo, Zhazha explained that she chose her outfits herself and wasn’t influenced by anyone involved with the event. She described her decision to later wear all black as a deliberately exaggerated act meant to be satirical.
I’ve always picked out my own clothes, and no one has ever told me what to wear – like a short skirt – while I’m working as a commentator.
She also responded to criticism directed at female broadcasters, stating that she was never pressured to wear revealing clothes on air. She explained that her choice to wear a short skirt was simply to create a more appealing visual for the audience.
She explained her unusual outfit, saying she’s always supported a woman’s right to choose what to wear. She chose the outfit as a way to playfully critique recent comments about clothing and freedom of expression.
Zhazha has asked viewers to avoid misinterpreting clips or making the situation worse. She explained, “I hope people can approach this calmly and avoid taking things out of context or creating unnecessary drama.”
