Kumail Nanjiani and Armando Iannucci, who both appeared on season 21 of Taskmaster, have received Oscar nominations – a pretty amazing accomplishment! Nanjiani’s teammate, Joel Dommett, jokingly pointed out their other successes, like Nanjiani being in The Eternals and Iannucci creating the show Veep. As Taskmaster becomes increasingly popular, the show is able to attract bigger and more famous contestants. While it’s not necessarily becoming a show full of Hollywood stars, creator Alex Horne hinted that a future season will feature a genuine Oscar winner. This raises the question: who has the time and enthusiasm to commit to ten weeks of a British panel show, and what will Greg Davies and Alex Horne put them through?
If you’re looking for a celebrity who’d be perfect for the show Taskmaster, Olivia Colman immediately comes to mind. Before winning an Oscar for The Favourite, she was a well-known comedic actress in the UK, appearing on shows like That Mitchell and Webb Look, Peep Show, and Would I Lie to You?. In fact, she’s arguably more popular now. Taskmaster usually films in large batches, but the live portions require some interaction, and Colman might prefer to stay based in London. Another great choice would be Emma Thompson – she’s a Cambridge Footlights alum and naturally funny. Could Helen Mirren do it? Probably not, though her surprising role in the Fast & Furious films suggests she might be open to anything, and perhaps willing to cause some chaos in the Taskmaster house.
Fans are speculating about the identity of the next celebrity contestant on Taskmaster. While many guesses are circulating, some names keep popping up. Bret McKenzie, known for his comedy work with Flight of the Conchords, is a strong contender due to his background in sketch and sitcoms. There’s also curiosity about what Mark Ronson is currently working on, given his past hosting experience on a show now led by Greg Davies. Though Billie Eilish is likely too busy, her brother Finneas could be a possibility. Some have even suggested singers who’ve performed Bond themes, like Adele or Sam Smith. However, the winner could be a completely unexpected and dramatic personality. While Eddie Redmayne seems unlikely, the suggestion is appreciated! Others wonder if Jessie Buckley might be looking for a fun project after a recent challenging role, or if Christopher Nolan might be persuaded by his children to participate. Considering his complex filmmaking style, Nolan would certainly excel at the show’s elaborate tasks. Ideally, the next contestant won’t be American, or at least not immediately following the recent appearances of American celebrities.
It doesn’t really matter who wins on Taskmaster; the best part is always seeing the comedians who aren’t famous poke fun at them.
