Summer House Recap: Vegas Odds

There are two ways to approach this episode, and honestly, neither one feels satisfying – much like the Sex and the City movies. You can either accept what happened at face value, focusing only on the events as they unfolded last summer, or you can dissect everything, searching for hidden meanings and reinterpreting past moments in light of current events – like West and Amanda’s evolving relationship and Ciara’s pointed social media posts. While Carl is clearly struggling now, it’s important to remember he was already dealing with issues back then, though for different reasons.

Jesse Solomon’s party has a loose Vegas theme – think a VIP rope sectioning off the couches and an inflatable cabana in the pool (which, admittedly, is pretty cool). It seems like most of the guests are girls Jesse and West invited the night before, probably while they were at Hampton Social or wherever young people drink those BuzzBallz these days. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Danielle Olivera on the dance floor. West tells Jesse one of the girls is attractive, and she quickly seeks him out for some playful flirting – she bears a striking resemblance to someone from the Nader family. Hopefully, you won’t need a mental health day or a break from your ‘For You’ page if you get that reference.

While the party was happening, Ben and Ciara were chatting in a less-than-glamorous VIP area about Sabrina. Ben was adamant that this version of Sabrina wasn’t nearly as good as the one he loved. West joined them, and Emmie Nader quickly settled onto his lap, saying something that included the phrase “make out.” West casually mentioned he used to date the girl next to Emmie, then shrugged it off. Emmie, seemingly unconcerned, asked if she should move, but West told her to stay put. Ben thought the whole situation was ridiculous, and later explained in a private interview that West often dwells on past mistakes, only to repeat questionable behavior, especially when Ciara is around. Ben felt West was behaving erratically, comparing him to someone completely unhinged.

Ciara and West were cuddling on the sofa, and then Ciara went inside. West and Emmie Nader moved to a sunbed, and Amanda jokingly asked if she could join them for a cuddle. After playfully bothering them for a bit, Amanda said she was leaving and asked them to watch her as she walked away. Meanwhile, Sabrina, still thirsty after drinking a lot of pool water, told West that Ben needed his help to end his conversation with Emmie Nader, and they sent her home because the party was winding down.

West passed out in the fake VIP area, and Amanda took the opportunity to write “DICK” on his forehead while he was unconscious. When he woke up, with almost everyone except Ciara and Mia present, Amanda confronted him about kissing another girl in front of Ciara. West explained he’d been well-behaved for two years and pointed out that Ciara had been getting close to Jesse in front of him, framing his actions as a drunken mistake. He also made a good point that they hadn’t ever actually discussed their relationship – Ciara could be seeing someone else, but he’s being treated like he betrayed a commitment. Ciara partially agreed, admitting that while he didn’t owe her anything, she wouldn’t have behaved that way towards him.

Kyle was attempting to side with West when Amanda abruptly told him to be quiet. She was standing up for Ciara and wanted Kyle to do the same. Amanda explained that for Kyle and Ciara’s relationship to work, they needed to treat each other with respect, especially since they live together.

Bailey initially supported West, but changed her mind when she learned he was making out with Emmie Nader while they were both sitting on the same chair – she calls it “crazy.” Ciara also felt West’s actions were wrong. While West has a point that Ciara should have officially ended his probation so they could discuss their friendship, this conversation seems to be happening too late. Ultimately, his behavior was disrespectful to Ciara and everyone else in the house. Emmie offered him a chance to avoid the situation, but he chose to continue, making the situation even worse. It’s one thing to flirt, but doing it so blatantly, as Bailey pointed out, was excessive.

When Kyle and Amanda begin to argue, Amanda goes upstairs to talk things over with Ciara. The two of them, along with Mia, then quietly try to eavesdrop on a conversation West and the others are having on the balcony – they’re a bit like a cozy, stay-at-home version of Charlie’s Angels. Back inside, Amanda, wearing a sweatshirt that says “Boys Lie,” Ciara clearly explains her issues with West: “I always had a feeling there was a reason I didn’t want to be friends with him, and now I know why. This is why I don’t trust him. He doesn’t truly understand me, and you can’t be friends with someone you don’t see for who they are.”

Even if you haven’t followed all the recent drama, West clearly acted disrespectfully towards Ciara, especially by doing it at her home and ignoring her feelings. While West still looks bad considering everything that’s happened, Amanda looks even worse. Think about how awful that creature at the end of The Substance appeared – Amanda looks even more disturbing. She’s far worse than anything seen on this season of The Pitt, including all the gruesome injuries.

However, during the summer, Amanda shows loyalty to her friend, Ciara. She confronts West, pointing out how inappropriate it was to passionately kiss someone else right in front of her at a party. Amanda understood that West being with her would hurt Ciara, especially knowing Ciara still had feelings for him and would be upset seeing him with another girl. It becomes clear she’s known this all along. Considering her provocative behavior towards West – like drawing his attention to her body – combined with West confiding in her about another man’s attraction to her, and Ciara consistently supporting Amanda, it suggests a complicated situation brewing – potentially involving multiple relationships and a scandal.

Earlier in the episode, following the drama with Ben and Sabrina, Ciara comforts Amanda. She tells Amanda that her difficult marriage has diminished her self-worth and belief in her own abilities. Ciara points out that Amanda often dismisses her ideas, but that Amanda deserves credit for half of Kyle’s achievements. Their emotional conversation brings them to tears, and in the moment, feels like a genuine connection between sisters. However, knowing what happens later, this scene feels like a painful betrayal for Ciara.

The whole Ben and Sabrina situation is ridiculous. I’ve never liked Sabrina – she showed up at Lindsay’s party acting like she already knew everyone and immediately tried to become best friends with them, then quickly got invited to move into the share house. I just can’t get on board with it. Plus, everyone saw Ben acting completely single just two weeks ago, so now he’s suddenly worried about protecting his relationship from a casual comment Amanda made at a party? Honestly, it’s unbelievable.

I don’t know what prompted Amanda to say that, but it seemed like a joke or an attempt to lighten the mood. Now Sabrina’s feeling awkward because of something a stranger said? And it was also strange that Sabrina, who barely knows anyone, was offering opinions on their relationships – the rest of the cast clearly felt uncomfortable. Honestly, I’m just frustrated with everyone involved, and this whole situation. (Also, I don’t like cheese, but that’s unrelated.)

I find it odd how Amanda’s reactions differ depending on the situation. When Ben mentions the issue at golf night, she immediately apologizes and says she didn’t mean any harm. She does the same thing when Sabrina arrives wearing knee-high suede boots – apologizing and saying she feels bad. But then Sabrina, who initially made a big fuss, suddenly acts like it’s no problem and talks about making memories, which is just annoying.

It’s strange – she acts very polite and understanding when talking about the situation generally, but when she films her confessionals, she gets really upset. She claims she’s confused about Ben bringing it up, saying this woman suddenly appeared and everyone is acting like they should automatically welcome her. She points out that Ben acted completely single all summer, and then, when this woman re-entered his life, he told Amanda he was falling in love, which she found incredibly frustrating. She essentially asks, “How dare he?” considering she’s married. It’s a total shift from her initial apologetic stance. I’m honestly baffled by the change, and I’m curious if you are too. That little “sir” at the end? Very Paige DeSorbo.

This episode has a few interesting moments. KJ reveals a new confessional setup, but it’s completely hidden from view. Jesse Solomon – remember when he was always referred to as Jesse and Solomon? – is seeing someone he met just three weeks ago at a house party. Meanwhile, Carl and Bailey are developing a sweet connection. Just when things seem chaotic, Bailey tells Amanda how much she likes Carl, and it’s a really endearing, nerdy romance – reminiscent of Zooey Deschanel and a Property Brother! Carl admits to Bailey he needs to be more open with Kyle, something he struggles with since he used to rely on drugs and alcohol for confidence. She’s incredibly supportive, and he’s visibly opening up. It’s a heartwarming connection, and honestly, exactly what we needed to see. We’re even hoping their relationship will develop further, as their love might be the saving grace we’ve all been waiting for.
