Japanese Prime Minister now has her own anime-style collectible figure

Most people are familiar with popular toys like G.I. Joe and Barbie, and many collect figures from franchises like Star Wars or anime. Now, surprisingly, you can even collect merchandise featuring the Prime Minister of Japan – and it’s officially approved by the government!

Japan’s Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, is getting attention online again, but this time it’s not because of a playful moment with the French President like her famous ‘Dragon Ball’ pose. This time, the buzz is around an official figure created in her likeness, showing the Prime Minister in a striking pose.

A plastic figurine was the main prize given to attendees at the Liberal Democratic Party convention held in Tokyo on April 12th. Guests could also collect various LDP-branded items from capsule toy machines.

Small vending machines are everywhere in Japan, and they’re well-known for selling anime and movie collectibles. People love them because it’s always a surprise to see what you’ll get. But it’s rare to find one offering a figure of your nation’s leader!

Japanese gov releases official PM figure

The Sanae Takaichi figure was the most popular item at the event. It depicts a cheerful Sanae Takaichi reaching out her hand, mirroring the pose of the Japanese Prime Minister.

Like recent anime collectibles, this figure also features a full voice performance by Takaichi. Press the button on the base, and she’ll say, “Get some good rest. I’ll protect Japan while you sleep.”

We never expected to be able to collect a figure of the Japanese Prime Minister, and it’s not even available to buy right now! It’s definitely a surprising possibility for the future.

It might seem a bit strange to display alongside your anime figures, but why spend over $7,000 on a life-size collectible like the Ghost in the Shell figure when you have the Prime Minister of Japan promising to look out for you?
