The creative force behind Dexter, Clyde Phillips, has shared some promising updates for viewers of the follow-up series, Resurrection, including the planned filming schedule for Season 2.
Dexter was a consistently popular show. This serial killer thriller originally aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, and finished after eight seasons that were mostly very well-received.
However, the character has made a strong comeback with the prequel series Original Sin, as well as two sequel series, namely New Blood and Resurrection.
The newest installment has been incredibly popular, marking Showtime’s most-watched premiere to date and earning a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Therefore, it’s understandable that plans are underway for more Dexter: Resurrection.
Is Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 happening?
While Dexter: Resurrection hasn’t been officially confirmed for a second season, things are looking promising. According to the showrunner, Clyde Phillips, they are currently making plans to begin filming in the near future.
During an appearance on the Dissecting Dexter podcast, Phillips explained that both he and Michael [C. Hall] had signed three-year contracts, meaning they were committed to continuing the show.
However, when questioned about whether the following two seasons would air during the next two summers – similar to how Season 1 was released – Phillips explained that this wouldn’t happen.
“Filming will begin next summer,” the showrunner said. “We’ll actually start shooting next spring. Our writers’ room opens on October 6th. We’ll be writing through the holiday season and into early spring, after which we’ll begin initial preparations – like planning the stages, sets, and filming locations – and then start casting. We’ll move forward from there.”
“We’ll be shooting next summer, we won’t be airing next summer.”
Since filming has finished, Dexter: Resurrection still needs to go through post-production and editing. Therefore, it’s unlikely to be broadcast until late 2026. Expect a release towards the end of the year.
Regarding the possibility of seeing characters and actors from the canceled prequel to Original Sin appear in flashbacks, Phillips responded with a maybe, stating in the podcast, “I can’t say no to that – there always is [a chance]. It sometimes comes up during writing sessions, and other times it hits me while I’m editing. So I’m not ruling anything out.”
