Jimmy Dean recalls over 50M pounds of frozen food for wood contamination

A nationwide recall has been issued for over 50 million pounds of Jimmy Dean and State Fair frozen products. This action follows reports that the items may contain pieces of wood. The recall was initiated after consumer complaints regarding this issue.

On September 27, Hillshire Brands Company, which is part of Tyson Foods, announced a voluntary recall, as stated in a notice from the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service. The recall affects over twenty-four products, including State Fair corn dogs and Jimmy Dean pancake and sausage sticks – items that are normally made with wood supports.

The recall effects food produced between March 17 and September 26.

Tyson Foods explained in a statement that the recall was a precautionary measure and emphasized that no other products from Jimmy Dean or State Fair are involved. The company also stated that the frozen products were sold online, at stores across the country, in schools, at restaurants, and even at facilities belonging to the Department of Defense. This recall is limited to the specific items announced and does not affect other products.

Five injuries reported from contaminated corn dogs and food products

Federal authorities report that the products being recalled might have tiny pieces of wood mixed in with the dough during manufacturing. Hillshire Brands has received several complaints from customers and has verified at least five injuries connected to these recalled items. This is a potential safety concern and consumers should be aware. Further investigation is underway.
