One such character that truly stands out is the enigmatic figure known as The Watchmaker.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but sing the praises of Honkai: Star Rail – a masterpiece crafted by the talented minds at miHoYo, who have undeniably left their mark with the global phenomenon that is Genshin Impact. However, in my humble opinion, Honkai: Star Rail surpasses even their extraordinary work on Genshin Impact. With its immersive turn-based gameplay, captivating characters, and a lore so rich it feels like stepping into another world, this free-to-play gem offers an unparalleled experience that I simply can’t get enough of.
As good as the lore is, there is admittedly a lot of it. It can be tough to keep track of multiple characters and storylines spanning different planets, ships and space stations. Who Is The Watchmaker?
In the game Honkai: Star Rail, The Watchmaker is one of the key characters whose influence on the planet Penacony is delved into during the main storyline. Known as the Father of Penacony, this character plays a pivotal role in the folklore of the world.
He helped transform Penacony from a Stellaron damaged prison world into the “Planet of Festivities,” a place of celebration and wonder. Despite being talked about for generations, many came to believe him just a myth.
Who Was He Really?
As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: I, or rather the character I play, was always known as The Watchmaker in the game Penacony. But in truth, my origins lie on another planet, Lushaka, an ocean-covered world. Raised by renowned sailors, I took their names, Mikhail and Char, and that’s how I came to be known by those names.
With a passion for mechanics and clocks, he chose to become an apprentice clockmaker, even as he harbored dreams of becoming a renowned sea explorer. Later on, the Astral Express docked at Lushaka, where Mikhail eagerly signed up to be part of the crew of the nameless spaceship.
Mikhail likely had numerous adventurers working on the Astral Express as a Nameless, serving as the mechanic. However, his tale primarily revolves around the time he chose to depart from the train at Penacony, together with Tiernan and Razalina.
In the vastness of space, Penacony suffered from a corrosive phenomenon known as Stellaron corrosion, which not only distorted its beautiful landscape but also brought forth fearsome creatures. Eager to aid this battered world and its inhabitants, the trio once known as Nameless embarked on a mission.
Though often called a planet, Penacony is in fact a massive artificial spacecraft, originally built with the purpose of serving as a cosmic penitentiary.
By virtue of his extraordinary talents, Penacony gained fame for being a realm of astonishing innovation and festivity. Mikhail’s inventions, such as joking teapots, spinning automobiles, and moving houses, were merely some of the wonders he crafted during his tenure there.
Many years have elapsed since he lived, and the narrative of the game delves into his enduring influence instead of recounting his personal experiences. An enigmatic summons arrives at the doorsteps of diverse groups, hinting at the discovery of his legacy.
In the role of The Watchmaker, you’ll hear the voice of Cory Yee. If you’re a fan of other Hoyoverse games, you might be familiar with him as the voice behind Gorou and Draff in Genshin Impact.
Can You Play As The Watchmaker?
In the game, it’s not possible to recruit Mikhail from any current banner, given that he is a narrative character who has been deceased for several generations before the game’s events. For Mikhail to be recruited, the developers would need to reconsider their approach to character availability.
In essence, you can invite The Watchmaker to your group, as character Misha represents The Watchmaker and can be included along with various other characters.
As a gamer, I’m not your typical character in the game; I’m more like an evolving concept, a Memetic Entity. To put it simply, imagine me as an idea that’s been given a human shape.
