James Gunn recently clarified the release timeline for the new Batman movie in the DC Universe. He addressed rumors that “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” would be delayed until 2030 or 2031, confirming that this is not the case.
James Gunn confirms DCU’s Batman movie release date window
When a Threads user wondered if the new Batman movie might be released much later than expected, James Gunn simply replied, “No.” This confirms that the project, which will feature a fresh take on Bruce Wayne as part of the first phase of the DC Universe (Gods and Monsters), is still on track for its anticipated release timeframe.
Andy Muschietti is directing the new Batman movie, which was first revealed in January 2023, and the script is still being finalized. According to James Gunn, this film, titled ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ won’t be released in the same year as ‘The Batman Part II,’ which is currently set to come out in October 2027. This means the DC Universe’s reboot of Batman will probably be released in either 2028 or 2029.
I’ve been following the news closely, and it looks like 2028 is now the most likely target for this new film. Right now, nothing else is scheduled for that time, which is great. With the movie tentatively set for June 30th, 2028, there’s still a chance we could see it in October, like they did with *The Batman Part II*. But, they’re also considering July 2029, which would give it more space from Matt Reeves’ film and the upcoming DCU reboot. It seems like they’re weighing their options to give everything the best chance to succeed.
DC Studios is still working on the project, and they’re committed to finishing the script before making any further progress. Recent updates suggest the story is being refined, and James Gunn has confirmed they’ve begun discussing who will play the new Batman.
If filming begins in 2027, the movie could be released in late 2028, which fits DC Studios’ plan to release two live-action films each year. The studio wants to feature both Matt Reeves’ separate Batman movies and films connected to the main DC Universe, allowing different versions of Batman to appear with unique creative visions.
