The director of DC Studios’ upcoming Batman movie has responded to fan suggestions for who should play the new Caped Crusader. Since James Gunn announced his DC Universe plans, fans have been passionately debating who should be cast as Bruce Wayne in The Brave and the Bold. While the movie doesn’t have a release date yet, the script is being written by Andy Muschietti, director of The Flash, and Christina Hodson. This pairing initially caused some disagreement online, forcing Gunn to address the concerns publicly.
So, I was chatting with Andy Muschietti, the director behind the upcoming The Brave and the Bold, while he was promoting his new film They Will Kill You. Naturally, the conversation turned to the big question everyone’s asking: who will play Batman in James Gunn’s DCU? Muschietti didn’t exactly give anything away, but he did admit he likes to keep an eye on all the fan casting online. He wouldn’t say more than that, but he definitely seemed… curious to see what we all think!
“I mean, curious yeah. There’s always like… Yeah, curious.”
The director of The Brave and the Bold enthusiastically agreed when CinemaBlend asked if he was paying attention to fan suggestions for who should play Batman.
I was really excited to hear the interview with the filmmaker about They Will Kill You. Even cooler, he had his sister Barbara Muschietti with him – she’s producing his new Batman movie for the DCU! She talked about how much they both appreciate their fans, but what I found really interesting is what she said about casting. She emphasized that picking the right actors is something they absolutely get to control, and that’s huge!
I truly appreciate our team and viewers, but ultimately, we have the final say in choosing who works with us.
Choosing the next Batman is a huge decision, and many important people at The Brave and the Bold and DC Studios will be involved. That likely includes director Andy Muschietti and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, and ultimately, executives at Warner Bros. and its new owner, Paramount, will need to approve the final selection.
Following the pattern established by James Gunn’s approach to casting, it’s unlikely a new Batman will be chosen until the script for The Brave and the Bold is finished. However, fans will see Bruce Wayne return to the big screen next year on October 1, 2027, in The Batman: Part 2, a standalone story that continues Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of the character.

Biggest Fan Casts For The DCU’s Batman

Brandon Sklenar, known for his roles in shows like 1923 and movies like It Ends With Us and The Housemaid, has become a popular fan choice to play Batman in the new DC Universe. Although many fans believe James Gunn has already selected Sklenar, it’s unlikely a decision has been made, as the script for The Brave and the Bold is still being finalized.
Alan Ritchson, known for his role in Reacher, has publicly expressed interest in playing Batman in the new DC Universe. However, he recently told ScreenRant he’s now discussing a different, more complex DC role, suggesting he likely won’t be considered for the part of Batman.
Several less famous actors have gained attention from fans who think they’d be perfect as Batman, mostly because they naturally resemble Bruce Wayne. Nate Mann, from Masters of the Air, and Paul Anthony Kelly, known for Love Story, are often mentioned as possibilities. While they aren’t as well-known or experienced as some other actors, James Gunn has a history of choosing rising stars for his leading roles, so their lack of fame isn’t necessarily a drawback.
Some people are suggesting James Gunn might consider Tom Brittney, who was a finalist to play Superman, for the role of Batman. Brittney was one of three actors considered for the part of Clark Kent, alongside David Corenswet (who ultimately got the role) and Nicholas Hoult (who was later cast as Lex Luthor).
As a huge Batman fan, I’ve seen Jensen Ackles – you probably know him from Supernatural and The Boys – consistently pop up in fan castings for the role. He’s even voiced Batman in animated projects before, which is awesome! Honestly, I think he’s incredibly talented and could definitely hold his own alongside David Corenswet. My only hesitation? At 48, he might be a little too old to be starting a long run as Batman. It’s a tough role that often requires someone who can convincingly play a character over many years, and age could be a factor.
Don’t expect to find out who will star in The Brave and the Bold anytime soon. DC Studios probably won’t begin filming until after The Batman: Part 2 comes out next year, which could mean casting announcements won’t happen until 2028. However, this timeline could change depending on what happens with Paramount’s potential purchase of DCU.
