I work as a writer for theme parks and try to visit them often, but since I don’t live in California or Florida, it’s not always possible. That’s why I also enjoy reading books and watching documentaries about theme parks – I’ve collected a huge library of them over the years!
I was really excited for next week because a new three-part series, *Epic Ride: The Story Of Universal Theme Parks*, was scheduled to premiere on Peacock. It promised to be similar to Disney+’s *The Imagineering Story*, exploring the history of Universal’s theme parks and offering a look at what’s coming next. However, the release has been delayed, so both I and other eager viewers will have to wait a little longer to watch it.
Epic Ride’s Delay May Be Due To The Recent Tragedy, But Not Necessarily
The Orlando Sentinel reported today that the premiere of *Epic Ride* has been delayed by almost two months and will now be available on Peacock starting November 17th. Although Universal hasn’t stated a reason for the delay, many believe it’s connected to the recent negative press surrounding their new theme park. The series was intended to highlight the parks, and the timing of the delay seems linked to the park’s current public image.
As a big Universal fan, I was really saddened to hear about the tragedy at Epic Universe last week. A guest unfortunately passed away after riding Stardust Racers, and my heart goes out to their family and friends. While it seems the ride and the team members were operating as they should, it just feels a little off to be celebrating the parks on TV right now. It feels like we should pause and show respect for everyone involved before focusing on the fun stuff.
While it’s understandable to link the recent tragedy to the delay, there might be other reasons. This is actually the second time the release has been postponed; it was originally scheduled for late July, then moved to September.
Could Stardust Racers Closure Impact The Epic Ride Documentary
If these two delays are related, the issue might be more than just handling public relations. It’s possible the documentary is undergoing minor edits because of a recent event. Although the documentary about Universal theme parks will only briefly cover Epic Universe, and mention Stardust Racers even less, the filmmakers might be waiting to finalize their comments about the attraction until they have a clearer picture of the situation.
Stardust Racers is currently closed and it’s unclear when it will reopen. While the ride itself doesn’t seem to be the problem, it might need some updates to improve safety. If that happens, the closure could last a long time. Because of this, Universal is likely being cautious about mentioning Stardust Racers in connection with the new show.
