As a Pokémon fan, I’m really excited to hear we can bring Pokémon from the main series games into Pokémon Champions! It’s awesome, but it sounds like these transferred Pokémon won’t be permanent additions to our Champions team – they’re more like temporary visitors. Plus, some moves they know might not be usable in Champions, which is a little disappointing, but I still think it’s a cool feature!
In an interview with TopMob, producer Masaaki Hoshino described how players will be able to transfer data between games.
As a competitive Pokemon player, I’m really excited about what the Champions team is doing! They’re trying to make it easier for anyone to jump into battling, and they’re doing that by letting us rent Pokemon with in-game currency. But don’t worry, veteran players like me won’t be left out – we’ll still be able to use our carefully built teams and compete!
How transferring works in Pokemon Champions
Hoshino explains that sending Pokémon to Champions isn’t a standard feature in the main RPG games. It works more like a short-term loan using Pokémon Home.
You can transfer Pokémon from the core series games,” he explained. “It’s not a permanent import, but rather a temporary loan to Pokémon Champions.
When you transfer Pokémon, their stats, abilities, and moves will stay the same. However, Hoshino mentioned that not all moves from other games will be available in Pokémon Champions.
He explained that some moves available in other Pokémon games won’t be included in Pokémon Champions.
Players can continue to customize their Pokémon as usual within the Champions game. Importantly, any changes they make will be saved, even after transferring the Pokémon back out. According to Hoshino, “If you move a Pokémon from Pokémon HOME to Champions, make adjustments, and send it back, those changes will remain when you bring it back into the game later on.”
He also stated that Pokémon used in the Champions mode can be transferred back to their original games using Pokémon Home.
The system seems built to allow players to use their current Pokémon in competitions without making lasting changes to the Pokémon themselves or giving older versions an unfair edge. Hoshino also mentioned that the game is still being developed, so the exact way this will work could change before the final release.
