KIRO7 News in Washington State reported on March 23rd that a man in Thurston County was arrested for the 98th time. Police say the arrest followed a high-speed chase with officers.
Police ended the chase twice due to dangerous driving by the person trying to escape, and a maneuver to stop the car failed. They did eventually locate the abandoned vehicle.
Officers arrested a man and a woman after finding them walking in the area. Sheriff Sanders praised the deputies and dispatchers, stating they had successfully apprehended repeat offenders “Again.”
Police address “career criminal’s” 98th arrest
According to a Facebook post by the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect has a long criminal history, including four felony convictions and 27 misdemeanor convictions. He was also recently involved in a theft, just days before his arrest.
The man had a criminal history including several theft convictions, and during this pursuit, he was also charged with driving under the influence, evading the police, and possessing illegal drugs.
After recovering the vehicle, police discovered the driver had modified his truck with a custom-built bong integrated into the dashboard, allowing him to smoke drugs while driving.
Videos of the pursuit are circulating online, and people are commenting on how often this individual has been arrested.
People were reacting to someone repeatedly committing minor offenses. One person suggested reinstating a ‘three strikes’ policy. Others joked he needed to reach 100 offenses, or that if he committed two more, he should be made honorary police chief for a day. Some even suggested letting him commit a couple more just for the amusement of it.
According to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, the man will be transferred to another law enforcement agency and charged with organized retail theft. Whether he faces an additional felony or a misdemeanor will depend on the total value of the items he stole.
