As a long-time watcher of The View, I’ve noticed a pretty clear trend over the years. It always seemed like the show happily booked prominent Democrats, but Republicans and anyone with conservative viewpoints frequently complained about being excluded. It was a pattern that became really noticeable, and honestly, a little frustrating if you were hoping for a balanced discussion.
Recently, politicians have almost completely disappeared from the show, which is happening right as federal regulators begin to investigate it.
Recent reports from The Hollywood Reporter indicate that The View hasn’t had any political guests for several weeks. This follows a Federal Communications Commission investigation related to rules requiring equal airtime for different viewpoints.
FCC Investigation Triggers Sudden Change
The issue began after James Talarico, a Democratic candidate for Senate, appeared on a show in February. This led the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), led by Chairman Brendan Carr, to launch an investigation.
The main problem revolves around an FCC rule called “equal time.” This rule says that broadcasters must give all candidates running for office the same amount of airtime.
For many years, programs such as The View have been considered legitimate news shows, which has given them freedom in choosing who appears as a guest.
That assumption is now being challenged.
The effects of the investigation were clear almost as soon as the news came out. According to a TV news professional who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, politicians quickly became unavailable for comment.
From Political Platform to Celebrity Couch
Recent episodes reveal that although political conversations still happen regularly, the show now features a very different range of guests.
Instead of lawmakers and candidates, The View has leaned heavily on:
- Actors
- Authors
- Filmmakers
Political figures — once a regular fixture — were suddenly absent.
The report shows the show hadn’t hosted a politician since early February until recently, when Senator Cory Booker appeared to discuss his new memoir.
That announcement might have been deliberately scheduled to prevent further review by the FCC, since Booker hasn’t officially met all the requirements to be a candidate yet.
The Equal Time Problem
The stakes here go beyond just one show.
If the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) decides that The View isn’t a real news show, ABC and its local stations might be required to give equal time to candidates with different viewpoints – otherwise, they could face penalties.
That creates a dilemma:
- Book one candidate → risk triggering equal time requirements
- Avoid candidates altogether → avoid regulatory headaches
Right now, The View appears to be choosing the second option.
Joy Behar’s Claim Collides With Reality
Honestly, the timing of this new rule is pretty interesting. It’s happening right when people are starting to really question who The View has been inviting on the show – there’s a lot of talk about their guest choices right now.
Joy Behar, one of the hosts, recently said that Republicans don’t come on the show because they’re afraid to face tough questions.
But that narrative quickly fell apart.
Several conservative commentators claimed they had tried to be guests on the show but were turned down.
I’d like to have more Republicans as guests on the show, but they seem reluctant to appear, possibly because they’re intimidated by our perspectives.
When I was pitched to go on, they said no lol

That includes Riley Gaines, who called Behar out publicly.
In other words, the issue may not have been reluctance — it may have been access.
A Pattern That’s Hard to Ignore
Even when Republicans have appeared on The View, the selections have raised eyebrows.
The show recently featured Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. Interestingly, she’s been openly critical of President Trump, which made her appearance less risky for the show.

The program, however, has been much quicker to welcome guests from the left, even those with controversial pasts. A notable example is former Congressman Anthony Weiner, who received positive coverage despite having served time in prison for offenses involving a child.
This difference has led to ongoing complaints that the show isn’t interested in real debate, but rather in shaping a specific viewpoint.
A High-Stakes Test Ahead
As the 2026 midterm elections approach, the pressure on The View is only going to increase.
The FCC isn’t simply observing ABC; it’s indicating that changes could come to television as a whole.

If the official definition of a “news program” is made stricter, shows like late-night talk shows could also come under the same level of review.
For now, The View finds itself in a difficult position:
Keep booking politicians and potentially face legal and public scrutiny…or stop booking them altogether, which would mean changing a key aspect of who you are.
The Bigger Picture
As a long-time watcher of The View, I’ve always noticed what many critics have pointed out: the show’s choice of political guests seemed consistently skewed. It often felt like we were hearing from a limited range of viewpoints, with some perspectives noticeably left out of the conversation.
Now, under federal scrutiny, that approach is no longer sustainable.
And the irony is striking.

For years, people have criticized The View for not including diverse viewpoints. Instead of broadening who they invite on the show, they’ve now stopped inviting politicians as guests entirely.
