Now that filming has begun on the next Lord of the Rings movie, ‘The Hunt for Gollum,’ Elijah Wood, who played Frodo, has been thinking about the difficult experiences the Hobbits went through in the original films.
Andy Serkis is directing a new Lord of the Rings film, titled The Hunt for Gollum. The screenplay is written by Phillipa Boyens, Phoebe Gittins, Arty Papageorgiou, and Fran Walsh.
Ian McKellen has confirmed he’ll reprise his role as Gandalf in the upcoming movie, and has also shared that Frodo will be included in the story. While Elijah Wood hasn’t officially confirmed his participation, he hinted at it, telling The Times it feels like the original cast is reuniting.
While talking about his new film, Ready or Not 2, which is currently playing in theaters, we also chatted about Lord of the Rings.
Elijah Wood says the Hobbits “carry a lot of trauma”

Someone commented on Lord of the Rings, pointing out that the Hobbits would likely experience serious trauma and struggle to readjust to normal life in the Shire after their adventures.
Wood acknowledged that the characters’ difficult history will continue to impact them, explaining that the Hobbits are all deeply affected by everything they’ve experienced together.
He feels the final film in the series effectively showed the lasting impact of their experiences. He points to the scene at the end of Return of the King, where the characters are together in a pub, saying it captures the sense that they’ve all been profoundly changed by what they’ve endured, and that’s a realistic depiction of where they’d be if they returned to normal life.
Wood expressed a desire to see Frodo participate in a fight scene in a future installment. He noted that Frodo doesn’t do much fighting and thinks it would be entertaining to see him in a skirmish, perhaps similar to the brief encounter on Weathertop, but more substantial. He believes a small fight would be a welcome addition to the story.
The sequel to Ready or Not is available now, and a new film called The Hunt for Gollum will be released on December 17, 2027. For more TV and movie interviews, be sure to subscribe to the ScreenTime YouTube channel.
