Real Reason Daredevil: Born Again Came Into Existence Was No Way Home

Okay, so Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum just dropped a fascinating bit of info – apparently, the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home is directly responsible for bringing us the Daredevil: Born Again series with Charlie Cox. It’s great to see Daredevil back, and Season 2 just hit screens on March 24th, 2026. And it’s not just Cox returning; we’ve also got Vincent D’Onofrio, Wilson Bethel, Deborah Ann Woll, and even Krysten Ritter reprising their roles, which is fantastic news for fans.

Brad Winderbaum reveals how Daredevil: Born Again got greenlit

A Marvel executive recently explained on the official Daredevil: Born Again podcast that the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home helped make the Charlie Cox Daredevil series possible.

During a recent discussion about Season 1, showrunner Dario Scardapane asked Brad Winderbaum about the decision to bring Daredevil back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Winderbaum explained that Charlie Cox’s appearance in Spider-Man was the key factor, saying, “As soon as I knew Charlie would be in Spider-Man, I knew we had to make the Daredevil series. It created the opportunity.”

According to the head of Marvel TV and Streaming, once the possibility of a Daredevil show was mentioned, he actively worked to develop it further. He also shared that Marvel’s Kevin Feige supported the concept.

Winderbaum explained that early versions of the show tried too hard to avoid connections to existing storylines. However, he believes the show’s strength lies in its independence from the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe while still acknowledging it. The events of the Avengers films – like the Blip and the space battles – happened and are part of the world, but this show operates as its own self-contained universe, much like the original comics.

Not only did No Way Home lead to the creation of Born Again Season 1, but Season 2 will also tie into the events of the next Spider-Man film, Brand New Day, according to Brad Winderbaum.

Winderbaum shared with Entertainment Weekly in October 2025 that they’re closely coordinating with the team working on Spider-Man: Brand New Day to ensure both stories fit together seamlessly. While he didn’t want to reveal any details, he confirmed that the two projects take place in the same universe and are connected.
