A sad moment in Stranger Things Season 3 involved the death of Alexei, Murray Bauman’s friend, and the actor who played him, Brett Gelman, is asking fans to stop holding his character responsible.
Murray and Alexei had a fascinating relationship in Stranger Things Season 3. They began as rivals, but eventually learned to respect each other and developed a strong friendship.
In Episode 7, while at a fairground filled with questionable fun, Murray promises Alexei he’ll find him something to eat, even if it’s not great.
Just as Murray is about to give Alexei a corn dog, tragedy strikes – Alexei is shot by a hitman. Surprisingly, actor Bret Gelman thinks people are wrongly accusing him of the murder.
Brett Gelman wants Stranger Things fans to “give me a break” over Alexei’s death

In a conversation with TopMob, Brett Gelman explained that he believes Alexei helps Murray realize he’s capable of friendship and belonging.
I believe Alexei found a weakness in Murray, which ultimately changed him and led to him becoming more connected to a family. He wasn’t just someone isolated in a bunker anymore.
Gelman described Alexei’s death as a sad event. He explained that Murray initially disliked Alexei, but they later became friends, making the loss particularly tragic.

Look, I’ve been getting a lot of flak for not being there for Alexei when he needed help, and I wanted to address that. It’s been tough, and I just wanted to say my piece to everyone who’s been sending me negative messages.
Gelman added, with a sigh, that he feels unfairly criticized by some fans for simply going to buy corn dogs, and he thinks that reaction is inappropriate.
I really don’t understand why you’re upset with me. He simply wanted a corn dog, and he was hiding, so I went to get one for him. I had nothing to do with what happened, so please, just leave me alone.
I’ve been totally hooked on Stranger Things – all five seasons are up on Netflix right now! I’m also curious to see what the cast is up to next.
