Kamala Harris Taps Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as Running Mate

For the past five years, Walz has served as Minnesota’s governor, following stints in the U.S. House of Representatives and as a teacher and Army National Guard officer. He seems not to have publicly discussed cryptocurrencies during his term, although he did accept (and subsequently returned) a $4,000 contribution from Nishad Singh, a former FTX engineering director, in the 2022 election campaign.

In addition, he endorsed a law this year that aims at regulating cryptocurrency vending machines. This law established a maximum daily transaction amount of $2,000 and provides safeguards against fraudulent activities.

On Tuesday, Harris’ decision establishes the dynamics for the November election, with the two candidates facing off against former President Donald Trump and Senator JD Vance. Both Trump and Vance have attempted to gain support from the cryptocurrency community, such as delivering a keynote address at the Bitcoin Nashville conference last month.

In simpler terms, it was predicted through a forecasting platform called Polymarket that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro had about a 66% chance of being chosen as the vice president. However, starting on Monday afternoon, the chances of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz started increasing significantly, causing a shift in the odds.
