Starfield is finally coming to PS5 alongside huge new update & story DLC

Bethesda revealed that Starfield will be released on PlayStation 5, along with a major free update and the second downloadable content pack.

The popular sci-fi RPG originally launched on Xbox and PC in 2023, and PlayStation 5 fans have been hoping for a version ever since. Now, it’s finally coming to PS5 on April 7th, with the Standard Edition costing $50 and the Premium Edition priced at $70.

Today also brings the new Free Lanes update to all platforms, along with the Terran Armada DLC. The Free Lanes update is available at no cost to all players, while the Terran Armada DLC – the game’s second expansion after Shattered Space – will cost $10 unless you have the Premium Edition, in which case it’s free.

What to expect in Starfield’s Free Lanes update & Terran Armada DLC

Free Lanes

Free Lanes brings a lot of new content to the game, letting you explore space more freely, drive new vehicles, and personalize your experience further. The biggest addition is Cruise Mode, which lets you pilot your ship manually between planets in a star system.

With this new mode, you can fly your ship between planets yourself, or let the autopilot take over so you can chat with your crew and organize your gear. Be prepared for unexpected events during your travels, like surprise attacks from other ships!

Here’s what else to expect:

  • X-Tech resource for upgrading weapons and spacesuits
  • Colony Way Action Figure collectibles that can be displayed in Outposts and offer one-time buffs
  • New POIs to find on planets
  • New vehicles, including Moon Jumper equiped with thrusters that launch it into the air
  • Extra customization options in Outposts, including Shared Inventory Container
  • New companions to be hired — Muria and Model G mini-bot
  • Endgame base set inside a hollowed-out asteroid
  • Quantum Entanglement Device to save items when going through Unity
  • Random Enemy Modifiers that provide unique effects

Terran Armada

The Terran Armada DLC is a smaller addition to the game that introduces the Terran faction and challenges players to fight their robotic forces. You can start this questline whenever you like, even if you’re still early in the game or have already finished the main story.

It includes:

  • New characters
  • New locations
  • Different enemy types
  • New weapons
  • New vehicles

Both games will launch on April 7th on all systems, including PlayStation 5. Whether you’re an experienced Starfield player or completely new to the game, there’s something for everyone to enjoy when you return to the Settled Systems.
