Sydney Sweeney Is Officially Returning To $395M Thriller Franchise Sooner Than Later As New Filming Details Are Revealed

Paul Feig’s film version of Freida McFadden’s popular novel exceeded all expectations. The Housemaid earned an impressive $394 million worldwide, making it the most successful movie for both Feig and star Sydney Sweeney. Given its huge success, it wasn’t surprising when a film adaptation of McFadden’s second book, The Housemaid’s Secret, was announced.

Director Paul Feig recently told Deadline at the Oscars that filming for the sequel to The Housemaid’s Secret will begin this fall. Both Michelle Morrone and Sydney Sweeney are confirmed to return, and there’s speculation that Amanda Seyfried might also appear in the movie.

The psychological thriller The Housemaid stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie, a woman with a criminal past who gets a job working for the rich and polished Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried). Nina’s marriage to Andrew (Brandon Sklenar) appears idyllic, but Millie soon discovers secrets and becomes caught in a web of deceit and surprising turns of events.

As a big fan of thrillers, I was thrilled to hear that The Housemaid is coming to Starz on April 1st, especially after how well it did in theaters! Everyone’s been talking about it. Now, like all of you, I’m eagerly waiting for news on The Housemaid 2 or even The Housemaid’s Secret. Luckily, it sounds like they’re already ahead of the game. Producer Todd Lieberman recently shared that they actually started writing the sequel before the first movie even came out! He didn’t give away too much, but he did say the script is fantastic and there’s a lot of buzz around it, which is really encouraging!

The team behind The Boys and Vampire Diaries, McFadden and Rebecca Sonnenshine, are writing the script for the sequel, and director Paul Feig is also returning. Currently, there’s no release date for the sequel, but you can watch the original movie, The Housemaid, on Starz starting April 1st, or rent or buy it digitally.
