Timothée Chalamet seems to be channeling his disappointment from the recent Oscars into his role as Paul Atreides. After not winning on Sunday night, he shared a new image from Dune: Part Three on Instagram, hinting at a darker turn for his character. Paul appears less like a hopeful hero and more like a formidable villain, with intense blue eyes and weathered skin. The Hollywood Reporter suggests this still is a preview of the first trailer for Dune 3, which will likely follow Project Hail Mary.
Denis Villeneuve’s next Dune movie will adapt Dune: Messiah, a story that delves into darker themes. It follows Paul Atreides after he becomes emperor and finds himself at the heart of a massive religious war, ironically becoming something of a villain. Dune: Part Three promises bigger roles for Florence Pugh and Anya Taylor-Joy, and may bring back Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho – or rather, one of the many cloned versions of him. Robert Pattinson is also joining the cast, though his character is currently a secret. The film is scheduled for release on December 18th.
