Is MrBeast hosting the 2027 Oscars? Conan O’Brien sketch explained

A recent Oscars sketch jokingly mentioned MrBeast, but he won’t be taking over hosting duties from Conan O’Brien next year.

Conan O’Brien started this year’s Oscars with a funny skit. He dressed up as a character named Aunt Gladys and playfully ran from children through sets inspired by popular movies nominated for awards.

The award ceremony concluded with ‘One Battle After Another’ and ‘Sinners’ taking home the most prizes. However, the event wasn’t without issues – some people were upset about the treatment of ‘Kpop Demon Hunters,’ the omission of David Keighley from the memorial tribute, and the mess left by attendees.

I was cracking up at Conan’s closing sketch last night! He totally roasted the Best Picture winner, and then joked that MrBeast might be coming for his job a few years from now. By the way, if you haven’t seen ‘One Battle After Another’ yet, be warned – spoilers ahead!

Is MrBeast hosting next year’s Oscars?

No, MrBeast is not hosting the 2027 Oscars, with his mention at the end of the skit likely a joke.

The sketch opens with O’Brien relaxing next to a large statue after finishing his hosting job. An Academy official walks up and enthusiastically tells him, “That was a fantastic show, Conan! We loved it so much, we’ve decided you’ll host the Oscars forever!”

The man led Conan to his new office, explaining that the Academy was very impressed with his work. He said everyone had been discussing Conan’s performance and that it was truly remarkable.

He was shown to Suite 55, which had a plaque above the door reading ‘Host for Life’ with his name on it. Conan enjoyed the view from the window, then relaxed by putting his feet up on the desk.

Okay, so after they knock Conan out with gas, they wheel him away in his chair. Then, and this is the really wild part, they incinerate him… but he’s smiling! It’s totally over-the-top, but that’s Conan for you.

After the sketch aired, the sign on the door was changed from Conan’s name to ‘Mr. Beast – Host for Life.’ It was probably a joke, but MrBeast seemed to enjoy it, immediately sharing a photo of the new sign on X (formerly Twitter).

The sketch cleverly parodies the “One Battle After Another” scene from the movie, specifically the part where Sean Penn’s character, Colonel Lockjaw, dies. Jim Downey portrays the person leading both characters to their fate, and Lockjaw, similar to O’Brien, is poisoned using the same method, also in Room 55.

Okay, so after the Oscars, I dove into some behind-the-scenes stuff. Apparently, Sean Penn didn’t show up, and I found out Diane Warren has had some seriously rough luck at the Academy Awards – it’s kind of a downer, honestly.
