Iron Lung creator Markiplier will attend the 2026 Oscars

Markiplier, the popular YouTuber, will be going to the 98th Academy Awards on March 15th. He received an official invitation to the event.

Mark Fischbach, known as the creator, shared on his Distractible podcast that he’ll be attending the Oscars as a guest, even though he isn’t nominated for an award or presenting this year.

Okay, so pictures are going around online from the Dolby Theatre, and they’ve got photos of the seating arrangements. I saw one with a name tag for ‘Markiplier’ – it even had his picture on it! It looks like I wasn’t the only gamer there after all!

Markiplier to attend 2026 Oscars

The invitation followed the recent independent release of Markiplier’s horror film, Iron Lung, which debuted on January 30, 2026. The film is adapted from the popular horror game of the same name and represents Markiplier’s biggest filmmaking endeavor so far.

Since Iron Lung came out in 2026, it couldn’t be considered for the Academy Awards this year, which recognize films from 2025. However, it might be eligible for the 2027 Oscars instead.

Markiplier is a hugely popular figure on YouTube, known to millions of subscribers. He’s recently moved into filmmaking, starting with interactive series like ‘A Heist with Markiplier’ and ‘In Space with Markiplier,’ and most recently directing the film ‘Iron Lung’.

Conan O’Brien will host the 98th Academy Awards, which will be broadcast live on ABC and Hulu on March 15th at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.
