Before His 2026 MCU Debut, This Villain May Get An Even More Comic-Accurate Story In Spider-Man’s Live-Action Show

Tombstone, a well-known villain from Spider-Man’s stories, was originally going to appear in the movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, it’s now official that he’ll first appear on screen a few months earlier in the Prime Video series Spider-Noir, starring Nicolas Cage.

Marvin Jones III will play Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Abraham Poopola, who was previously announced for Spider-Noir, appears to be playing the villain, as seen on a character poster for the show. Despite both actors being involved, their roles won’t necessarily be the same.

Why Spider-Noir’s Tombstone May Be More Comic Accurate Than The MCU’s In One Key Way

The animated series Spider-Noir takes place in a different version of the Marvel Universe, giving it the freedom to reimagine familiar characters in new ways. This means we’ll see some significant changes in how these characters are presented. For example, while Marvin Jones III’s portrayal of the character will likely match the comic book version’s unique albino look, the poster suggests that won’t be true for Poopola’s character.

It’s possible the upcoming portrayal of Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be closer to the classic version of the character. While that could be the case, Spider-Noir has something Brand New Day might not: Robbie Robertson. Robertson is a crucial part of Tombstone’s history and his many conflicts with Spider-Man.

In the late 1980s issues of The Spectacular Spider-Man, it was revealed that Lonnie Lincoln, also known as Tombstone, and Robbie Robertson grew up in the same neighborhood. While they were in high school, Robbie witnessed Lonnie, who was already involved in petty crime, commit a murder. Knowing Robbie saw what happened, Lonnie threatened him, and Robbie kept the incident a secret.

After Lonnie returned as Tombstone, Robbie finally confronted him and revealed the truth about their past. This shared history and secret have become a recurring theme in the comics, often driving Tombstone’s actions as he seeks revenge on someone he once knew.

It’s unlikely we’ll see the comic book storyline of Tombstone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe unless the show introduces Robbie Robertson. However, Robbie Robertson – played by Lamorne Morris – is a main character in Spider-Noir, and with both characters appearing in the show, it seems likely their stories will connect.

Where Tombstone May Fit Into Spider-Noir’s Story

Since both Silvermane and Tombstone are appearing in the show, it’s clear organized crime will be a major challenge for Ben Reilly in Spider-Noir. This gives the Prime Video series a natural way to include Tombstone’s history with Robertson, as established in the Marvel comics.

It’s easy to see how a storyline could develop where Nicolas Cage’s Ben Reilly discovers Robbie knows a dangerous secret about Tombstone – just like in the comics. This could put Robbie in danger, forcing Ben to transform into Spider-Man to keep him safe.

Adding to the tension, a gang war could be brewing. In the Marvel comics universe, characters like Tombstone and Silvermane are major players in the criminal world, and Mister Negative – who is likely to appear in Spider-Noir – is another powerful figure in that scene.

As a big fan, I’ve noticed all these characters are known for being really ambitious and power-hungry, which pretty much guarantees some intense conflicts in the criminal world of Spider-Noir. If the show portrays Tombstone as someone constantly fighting for control, clashing with other bosses, and secretly targeting Robbie Robertson, it’ll feel exactly like the Tombstone we know and love from the comics. It’s a perfect way to stay true to the source material!
