Internet raises $500k for elderly couple doing DoorDash to make ends meet

Richard Pulley, 78, is getting a lot of attention online after people learned he’s been delivering food to earn extra money. Now, people are donating to help him retire comfortably.

Many people are now choosing food and package delivery as a way to earn extra money alongside their regular jobs.

Richard Pulley, a 78-year-old from Nashville, started delivering for DoorDash because he needed to help make ends meet. He had been enjoying retirement, but his wife, Brenda, recently lost her job. Now, they work together – Brenda drives, and Richard handles the deliveries to customers’ doors.

So, this guy Richard delivered my Starbucks, and it was awesome! I posted a TikTok about it, and it blew up. Now I’ve started a GoFundMe because I really want to help him and his wife finally enjoy their retirement – they deserve it!

Richard Pulley goes viral with DoorDash deliveries

According to WSMV, the GoFundMe campaign for the Pulleys quickly raised $300,000 within its first day, and has now surpassed $500,000 thanks to donations from people around the globe.

Smith is aiming to raise $650,000 through donations, but Brenda admitted to WSMV that the goal was initially confusing.

She expressed disbelief at the incredible generosity of strangers who were helping them, noting that many didn’t even know them personally. Some of the donated money would be used to cover their usual medical expenses.

Richard told WSMV that he and his team are very grateful for the help they’re receiving, as it’s significantly reduced their workload and improved their overall well-being.

There are many heartwarming stories of people online helping seniors retire. For example, in December, a GoFundMe campaign began for Ed Bambas of Detroit after a video showing him working five days a week at a convenience store went viral.

People online raised nearly $2 million for Bambas, who expressed being deeply touched by the incredible support he received.
