As of 2026, there haven’t been any updates regarding a third film in the series. The disappointing box office results of The Bone Temple have led to doubts about whether another movie will be made. Director Danny Boyle recently told The Hollywood Reporter they are still working on securing funding. If Sony decides to proceed, there are both advantages and disadvantages to consider.

Will 28 Years Later 3 Still Happen After The Bone Temple?

There are many unanswered questions after ’28 Days Later,’ including what happened to Jamie, how Alpha Samson fared against the rage virus, whether Spike could escape the Fingers and Jack O’Connell’s group, and the return of Jim after so many years. However, the poor financial performance of The Bone Temple is a major concern. Considering the additional $70 million spent on marketing (as reported by Deadline), it’s understandable why Sony might be hesitant to move forward with a third film.
