YouTuber flies drone over Harry Potter set and reveals Hogwarts & Quidditch details

A YouTuber successfully flew a drone over Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, where the new, highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series is being filmed. The resulting footage provides a unique look at the sets and construction happening for HBO’s reboot of the Wizarding World.

As a huge Harry Potter fan, I’m so excited – and a little nervous! – about the new show. After the books and movies were such a massive hit, there’s a lot of pressure on it to be good. It’s going to be a long series, spanning ten years, and a whole new generation of actors will be playing Harry, Hermione, and Ron. I’m really curious to see what they do with it!

Filming for Season 1 started in the UK in July 2025, and it’s expected to be released in early 2027. As with most large-scale franchise projects, details have been kept secret, but fans are still eager to find out more.

A YouTuber named DJ Audits used a drone to film the Leavesden film set and shared the footage online. The aerial shots show several set pieces and provide what many believe is the best unofficial glimpse yet of the Harry Potter filming location.

Highlights from the newly discovered Harry Potter footage include impressive aerial views of the Quidditch pitch and a section of Hogwarts castle, where you can just make out the Hufflepuff and Slytherin house crests. We also get a much better look at Privet Drive.

Just as described, the Quidditch pitch perfectly matches how it’s portrayed in the books – it’s an oval-shaped stadium with stands for the audience. It’s also surrounded by blue screens, which DJ Audits jokingly says are there to conceal the props, but are actually for adding computer-generated effects later.

You know, playing the new Hogwarts Legacy, I was really surprised by Privet Drive. The houses actually look way more like how I imagined them from the books than they did in the movies – much more realistic and normal, which is kinda the point, right?

In addition to the Harry Potter announcements, it looks like some of the sets being shown are from the third season of House of the Dragon, which was primarily filmed at the Warner Bros. studio.

The video has led to a lot of online discussion, particularly on Reddit, where some people noticed the blue screens in the background. One user joked, ‘It looks like they used those blue screens to cover something up… or maybe it’s just for the special effects!’

Another agreed, “Literally just pissed myself at this, the way he says it with so much confidence.”

Although many people believe ‘House of the Dragon’ surpasses ‘Harry Potter’, they still speak highly of what they’ve seen from the ‘Harry Potter’ series.

One person commented that the limited footage of the Harry Potter sets is surprisingly well-done, noting that the Quidditch pitch looks similar to classic wooden school bleachers.

The depiction of Madam Hooch as a gym teacher in a tracksuit seems a bit odd, but it will likely be enhanced with computer-generated imagery to create a more magical look. It appears they’re filming using only one side of the Quidditch pitch and will use visual effects to make it seem larger.

New look at Privet Drive

The Reddit user praised the Privet Drive video, guessing that the house in the middle with a garden is likely Number 4, the home where the famous wizard was raised.

They pointed out the house on the left had dead grass, something Petunia would never tolerate. Overall, these houses seemed more believable and less cookie-cutter than how they were portrayed in the movie.

The houses aren’t perfectly identical; there are slight differences in roof styles, how well-maintained they are, and other small details – just like you’d find in a typical suburban neighborhood. And unlike most of the homes, one property across the street is actually a duplex.

I noticed a gas heater in the garden of number 4, which made me think they must have filmed scenes inside the house itself. I’d assumed the houses were just fronts and the insides were built on a set.

Someone commented that they were amazed by the incredibly clear pictures of Privet Drive, unknowingly taken by this person. They also jokingly mentioned the attempt to use ‘privacy screens’.

People have been discussing a building that appears around the 21-minute, 30-second mark, wondering if it’s Hogwarts from the Harry Potter series or a location from House of the Dragon. One commenter pointed out that it’s likely Hogwarts, as they could see the emblems for Hufflepuff and Slytherin houses near an underpass.

Many TV and movie fans on Reddit and other social media platforms seem more worried about DJ Audit than anything else.

Okay, so things are getting a little tense! I saw someone write that Warner Bros.’ lawyers are probably already on their way, and another person joked about how fast they’re going to get sued. But honestly, someone else made a good point – the whole idea of these audits is that there’s not much we can do about it if they find something.

They’re claiming the drone didn’t break any flying rules, but it’s still unclear if that’s actually the case. As of now, the video is still available on his YouTube channel.
