Netflix Unveils First Look at Will Ferrell’s New Golf Comedy Series The Hawk

Last year, Adam Sandler returned as Happy Gilmore in the sequel to his hit movie. Now, the streaming service is trying something new with a comedy series called The Hawk, featuring Will Ferrell as a famous golfer, much like Sandler’s role. This series brings another Saturday Night Live veteran into the world of golf comedies.

Netflix announced its new series, The Hawk, on Wednesday, and released three short preview clips. Will Ferrell not only stars in the show, but he also created it. While a specific release date hasn’t been set, Netflix confirmed The Hawk will be available in Summer 2026. A new teaser trailer offering a first look at Ferrell as Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins has also been released and can be watched below.

Will Ferrell Plays a Golf Icon in The Hawk

Netflix’s new series follows Lonnie Hawkins, a former top golfer, as he tries to revive his career despite his aging body. While his ex-wife and son, a rising golf star, think he should retire, Lonnie is determined to win one last major championship – the final piece he needs to complete golf’s Grand Slam – and prove he can still compete at the highest level. He believes he’s just one good shot away from an incredible comeback.

Molly Shannon, known from The Other Two and formerly on SNL, stars in The Hawk as Stacy, the ex-wife of the main character, Lonnie. The cast also includes Jimmy Tatro (The Real Bros of Simi Valley) as Lonnie’s son Lance, Fortune Feimster (FUBAR) as the golf legend’s new caddie Sam, Katelyn Tarver (Ballers) as Lance’s fiancée Natalie, Luke Wilson (Legally Blonde) as Lonnie’s golf rival Golden Fisk, Chris Parnell (Fallout) as PGA Tour board member Anton, and David Hornsby (Mythic Quest) as Stacy’s new boyfriend Radford.

Gabriel Hogan (known from Tacoma FD) and Aida Osman (Random Acts of Flyness) are also starring in The Hawk. Will Ferrell is executive producing the show with a team including Jessica Elbaum, Alix Taylor (Gloria Sanchez Productions), Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, Nena Rodrigue (T-Street), Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green, and Andrew Guest. The show is also a collaboration with the PGA Tour.

Will Ferrell Marks a Career First With The Hawk

Will Ferrell first became famous on television, but he’s now best known for his roles in hit comedies like Talladega Nights, Step Brothers, and Anchorman. He’s also been in many TV shows, including the miniseries The Shrink Next Door. However, The Hawk is his first comedy series where he plays the main character.

The Hawk will premiere this summer on Netflix with an exact date yet to be announced.
