Star Wars Announces Return of 9 Andor Characters In 2026’s ‘Reign of the Empire’

Star Wars is releasing a new novel that revisits the world of the Disney+ series Andor, featuring familiar faces like Mon Mothma, Saw Gerrera, and Kleya Marki. Andor concluded in May 2025, telling the story of Cassian Andor leading up to his crucial mission in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Though the show’s two seasons have finished, Star Wars has confirmed Cassian will reappear in a 2026 comic book set before the events of Rogue One. Now, it appears even more characters from Andor will be continuing their stories in this new novel.

According to Star Wars (reported by io9), a prequel to the Disney+ series Andor, titled Reign of the Empire: Edge of the Abyss, will be released later in 2024. The story will focus on characters from Andor and take place a year before the start of Season 1.

In Edge of the Abyss, bestselling author Rebecca Roanhorse tells the story of various rebel groups working to stop the Empire. The situation becomes critical when someone from Saw Gerrera’s team is captured.

Below is the official cover art for Edge of Abyss, featuring Saw Gerrera and a surprising glimpse of a young Princess Leia Organa.

In addition to Saw Gerrera, the upcoming novel set before the events of Andor will feature familiar faces like Mon Mothma and Bail Organa, among others. Since a third season of Andor isn’t currently planned, this novel offers fans a new way to explore these characters and their stories.

The new book, Reign of the Empire: Edge of the Abyss, will be available in bookstores across the country on September 15th.

Every Andor Character Returning In Star Wars’ 2026 Prequel Book

Mon Mothma

Mon Mothma is a central figure in Andor Season 2, bravely opposing the Empire even while serving in the Senate. Over the course of the show, she becomes the public face of the growing rebellion, highlighting the need for someone who can secure funding and maintain a credible appearance. She skillfully navigates the political landscape of the Senate, playing a long-term strategy to build support for the cause.

The new novel will likely reveal more about how she secretly worked behind the scenes to build up the Rebellion.

Saw Gerrera

Characters like Mon Mothma and Bail Organa demonstrate the Rebellion’s subtle approach, but Saw Gerrera stands in stark contrast. He believes in using extreme violence to send a message to the Empire and achieve his objectives.

The upcoming novel, Edge of Abyss, will significantly challenge Gerrera and test his boundaries. The story confirms that one of his team members will be captured by the Empire, potentially driving him to do anything necessary to rescue them.

Bail Organa

Bail Organa is a vital character in the Star Wars story. The series Andor demonstrated his ability to operate as a prominent leader while secretly aiding the Rebellion – a skill that sets him apart from Mon Mothma, who had to go into hiding by the end of Andor’s second season.

The official cover for the novel Edge of Abyss features Bail and Leia Organa, suggesting the book will delve deeper into their relationship.

Kleya Marki

Kleya Marki is a popular character in Andor, largely because of how much she develops over the show’s two seasons. Initially presented as the logistical and ethical center of Luthen’s network, Season 2 showed she was actually the stronger force in their partnership, ultimately driving Luthen to fully dedicate himself to the Rebel cause.

Although we don’t yet know exactly what she’ll be doing in Edge of Abyss, the story will likely follow Kleya as she continues to manage the network Luthen built to support the Rebellion.

Luthen Rael

Many believe Luthen Rael was the key figure who brought together scattered rebel groups throughout the galaxy while the Empire was at its strongest.

Even though Luthen Rael died in Season 2 of Andor, the upcoming Edge of Abyss will reveal more about his work building the Rebellion in its early stages.

Anto Kreegyr

Many viewers consider Anto Kreegyr a key rebel figure in the first season of Andor, though he only appears as a holographic image shown to Bix Caleen while she’s being questioned. Within the Star Wars galaxy, Anto is a former Separatist who leads his own rebel group and operates independently, not really following orders from the main Rebellion leadership.

Fans will finally get a more in-depth look at the character who only appeared as a hologram in Andor Season 1. Edge of Abyss, a prequel story, explores the events leading up to the show and reveals how he earned his strong reputation.

Perrin Fertha

In the series Andor, Perrin Fertha is Mon Mothma’s husband. His life changed dramatically when Mon committed herself to the rebellion. The upcoming Edge of Abyss may finally explore Perrin’s character in more detail, revealing the extravagant lifestyle and personality traits that caused Mon to distrust him.

Leida Mothma

Leida Mothma is the teenage daughter of Mon Mothma and Perrin Fertha. To secure funding for the rebellion from a questionable source named Davo Sculdun, Mon arranged a marriage for Leida to a family with wealth, without considering her feelings. Essentially, Leida was used as a pawn to ensure the rebels had the resources they needed to continue fighting.

The story could benefit from exploring the protagonist’s life and relationship with her parents before she marries the son of Sculdun.

Nisus Osar

Nisus Osar was a government official in the show Andor who was heavily involved in the events leading up to the devastating Ghorman Massacre. The upcoming Edge of Abyss series will focus on Ghorman, and it appears Osar’s role in the massacre, which happened years later, actually started before the first season of Andor even began.
