Girl Scouts in trouble after selling cookies to potheads with munchies outside weed store

A Girl Scout troop in New Jersey caused a stir when they sold cookies near a cannabis store. Some customers who had just purchased cannabis stopped by to buy snacks.

A troop of Girl Scouts reportedly sold a lot of cookies outside a Mount Laurel marijuana store, Daylite Dispensary, during cookie season. Sales were high, likely because customers experiencing hunger after using marijuana were buying them.

The dispensary suggested the Girl Scout troop sell cookies outside their store as a way to support the troop’s fundraising and offer customers a treat on their way out – a collaboration that benefited everyone involved.

Okay, so the owner of the dispensary, Steve Cassidy, basically told me what everyone already knows – weed gives you the munchies! He was super happy that they can finally acknowledge that connection and sell snacks alongside everything else. It’s cool they’re not pretending it doesn’t happen anymore, honestly. As a gamer, late-night sessions and snacks go hand-in-hand, so I get it!

Girl Scouts’ collab with weed store sparks backlash

The cookie booth was very popular with customers, and some people actually chose to buy cookies instead of cannabis when they visited the shop.

But the location soon raised concerns with Girl Scouts leaders, who apparently didn’t want scouts selling cookies in front of a marijuana shop due to how it might look.

The dispensary owner explained that the promotion was designed to show support for the troops and foster a sense of community, and they never anticipated it would create any issues.

He explained to The Independent that the issue was about bringing people together. He emphasized they never intended to cause problems for groups like the local Girl Scout troop.

Although the first sale went well, a second sale planned for March 6th was cancelled. This happened after the issue became public and Girl Scout leaders stepped in to address it.

The store posted on Instagram to express their strong support for the girls involved.

On March 6th, we welcomed a local troop to Daylite and were thrilled to support them. As a family-owned business, we’re passionate about giving back to our community, especially to young people starting their own ventures. We want to thank everyone who came by and showed their support!”

Girl Scout cookies are a major source of funding for the organization, selling millions of boxes annually to benefit local Girl Scout troops and activities.

Since New Jersey legalized recreational marijuana in 2022, over 200 dispensaries have opened statewide. Some saw combining cannabis with cookies as a smart marketing idea, though Girl Scout leaders didn’t share that view.

Honestly, I’m not sure if those Girl Scouts will be allowed to go back to selling cookies outside the dispensary. But wow, their story blew up online! It’s made them the most talked-about cookie sellers this season, which is pretty crazy.

Last month, a 6-year-old Girl Scout in Pittsburgh became a viral sensation after selling an incredible 87,000 boxes of cookies in just one season, breaking all previous sales records.
